Thumbs up Sync Radio/Nav Units Hot Tips

I just took delivery on a 2010 Expedition EL Limited that was equiped with Sync Radio/Nav system.

This unit is awesome! So far, have been able to hook up with bluetooth to cell and it even tries to connect to the laptop in the house.

One thing I have noticed when connecting to the syncmyride website is that it seems to be "experiencing difficulty" a lot. lol

Anyone try to connect thru bluetooth to a computer and what benefit would it be?

Maybe a direct download from computer to radio for updates? I know a flash drive works because I already uploaded an update.

Any hot tips for other users?

Yeah - they just did an upgrade to the site. Imagine that.

You could stream music, but that's about it. You cannot:
1. Update the maps or Gracenote DB.
2. Load pictures into the HDD
3. Load music into the HDD
4. Make any other system changes

Maybe a direct download from computer to radio for updates?

Updates can ONLY be loaded via the flashdrive.

I know a flash drive works because I already uploaded an update.

By an inexpensive 16-32 GB flash drive, USB cable, necessary adapters, and relocate USB2 to your glove compartment or center console. Then you can leave your flash drive plugged in and out of site...

The links below are from a competing site, but they explain EXACTLY how to do it for an F150. I assume they can be adapted for an Expedition.

Check out the syncmyride.com owner-to-owner forums. Lots of tips on using the flash drive instead of an iPod or other MP3 player.

Great info!

My usb port is in the center console(under the lid) along with what looks like an ipod hookup(round female plug)

The round female plug is a LINE-IN. You can plug in any device (CD player, non-compatible MP3 player, etc.) that cannot be controlled via Sync. Basically you plug a male-male 3mm (guess) cable into the headphone jack and the LINE-IN port.

You're welcome!

Have fun with Sync.

Here's a tip. Try saying (after pressing the voice button), "I'm hungry", "I need gas", or "I'm thirsty".

When you are saying things like "I'm hungry" in your navi equipped truck, your are not talking with SYNC. Instead, your are talking to your navigation system which has a POI search which finds your local restuarants. Ford has led many customers to think this is all SYNC, when in fact, SYNC is a tiny piece of hardware that strictly does mp3 and bluetooth connectivity.
