Recent SYNC 4.4 update - what was improved ?

I recently installed the 4.4 update to my basic SYNC radio on my 2012 Lariat.

Was there some sort of improvement that helped maintain a Bluetooth connection under certain circumstances ? Under what situations ?

If I'm listening to music coming into my radio using Bluetooth, I still have to re-navigate through the 'connection screens' after stopping the truck to get back to listening to Bluetooth music - was hoping that would simply be maintained after stopping/starting.

I was hoping that would be maintained automatically - am I doing something wrong ?

What I've noticed after the update:

My truck picks up where I left off with Bluetooth music now. I can park, go in a store, and when I come back out it automatically starts playing where it left off. I LOVE that.

Artist/title info is now shown on the screen. This is how it should have been all along.

Voice recognition works a lot better.

I still have the issue where a dialog box covers the screen while it's supposed to be reading text messages to me. That's annoying.

My bride has her phone connected to Sync on her Lincoln. Every time we get in the car her phone plays that loud signal that it plays whenever she receives a text. I find it just a tad annoying. Mostly for that reason I have failed to connect my phone to Sync on my truck. When I want to play Pandora, I simply connect the phone's line out to the aux. jack next to the usb port. This seems to work pretty well for me.

So I can somehow read text messages that come in to my phone ? On my basic SYNC radio ?

What do I do to enable that ?

It should be automagic.
When you receive a text message on your phone, you'll see the word "text" displayed on your radio display. Press the voice command button on the steering wheel. Say "read text message". Sync will then read the text message to you.

What if I'm listening to BT media, the hop over to radio for awhile...... THEN shut off ignition. Now I start the truck ......... can I scroll over to iPhone media and it picks up where it left off ? Or do I need navigate through some screens to "re-establish" that source ?

dh_meyer,

The Bluetooth connection should resume after turning the ignition on and off. I recommend performing a master reset on the truck: https://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-...html?sync=sync

Also, you can enable the text message feature to use in the vehicle as well: https://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-...html?sync=sync

The page you're looking for can't be found or has moved.

It could be that the link is outdated or something was typed incorrectly. Please try one of the links below, or enter a keyword(s) in the search field above.

Also, we both have 2012's, the oldest vehicle listed on that page is 2015...

After sync reads a text I have to sit in silence or press a bunch of buttons to get back to the radio. Can someone tell me how to exit after sync reads a text.

wrvond,

What internet browser are you using? I was able to open them in IE.

Sportscape,

What SYNC system do you have? You can find it here: owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-technology/all/get-started-with-sync/how-to-identify-your-sync-version.html?model

Cant recall where I learned this, but hold the Phone button for a few seconds and you will exit/return to where you came from.

I was able to listen to the text message I had received. Pretty cool function.

I then deleted the text on the phone, but could still retrieve it from SYNC. Will it get deleted from SYNC during the next ignition/radio on/off cycle ? Please dont tell me I have to delete in from SYNC (I looked around - could not find a delete function).
