I know that someone has a 351W and Jag IFS setup but can't remember who it was...I am curious to know what was done to cure the interference issues that I am facing. I have been on borgeson's website and I know that stuff can be bought, but first wanted to see what headers or exhaust manifolds are being used. I have a pair of ceramicoat shorty headers for a mustang but my collector flange is in the way...bummer...so I put on the stock manifold and it has the same problem...bummer again...I thought about using an offset mid shaft but thats a bit pricey. I will do that if I have no other choice, but wanted to find another person with the same issue. Also I thought about offseting the 351W to the passenger side a bit but then it gets tight on that side.
I don't have any engine mounts yet and won't until I figure this out. Thanks! Jeff
Jeff,
I am not the go to guy on sbf manifolds. My f-1 with the Jag IFS is set up with a sbc. That said however, if you google 351 ford exhaust manifold you will see what I call the "log" style, with a rear exit. They were used on trucks and vans in the mid 90's. They were also used on 302's. I am not personnally aware of which specific log style will give you the best flow/performance for your engine. Hopefully others on this forum can help more.
Sorry Jeff I can't help you there when it comes to which manifold to use, as I had custom extractors specially made up clear all the steering and other issues.
not sure but i think there are guys using the crown vic ifs on 57-60's
don't know how wide your frame is. Look at some pics in my albums.
I am struggling with the steering linkage header interference. I am using a 351W , a 302 is a little narrower and might be an easier choice for fit, but i will figure it out, just not experienced with altering so many things at one time. I wish there was a simple solution to this cause im tired of thinkin about it. I guess if it was easy then everyone would do it though.
I didn't want to spend a fortune on steering joints but that may be the answer.
I have a 86 XJ6 .. some say to that year back. i believe that 46 Steel has a later one in the 90'S not sure . May be will come on board and fill us in.
Sorry for the mistake .. He is 48 Steel not 46 and I believe he used a 80 model..He has a pretty good tech on it. I know there are other that have done the swap. I would get out the old tape and check it out.
Mine is from a 1984, series III xj6. The later models, after the series III, have a different crossmember and won't work. The later model is not a series IV, like you think it would. I think it's something like series 40, or xj40.
Now about my comment of not working, the series III is a proven match for our trucks. The later series has a similar crossmember, but not the same. It may not be the easy bolt in that the series III is, but with some mods it may work as well. I don't know if any one has tried it, but you may want to be the first!
