HPX questions

I'm not too familiar with, and I have a few basic questions about the High Pressure Crossover mod. My understanding is that it prevents pressure spikes and allows a smoother idle. Are there noticeable results with the HPX? While it allows a smoother idle does it make the idle sound smoother/better? How long does it take to install the HPX? Riffraff has a SS HPX and a Soft HPX with a Firesleeve wrap. The soft HPX is more expensive, what advantages does it have over the SS HPX? Is this mod worth the time and money? Thanks

It is only more expensive because of material costs, not because it is necessarily better.

It allows even distribution of oil between the two high pressure oil rails allowing all injectors to have the same amount of pressure there by causing the motor to run a little smoother. Some see awesome results, others see very little results, the idea is the same, even the pressure between the two rails to avoid pressure starvation.

I have mine made already, it just needs to go in... it's coming this weekend when the HPOP get's new O-rings. I got it made at Car-Quest. They make hydraulic hoses in-house, you just have to tell them your fittings sizes andhow much hose you want and they'll set you up right. I'm not gonna post pictures or measurements until I make sure it fits first, but I'm almost 100% it will fit! I would've bought the HPx from you, Clay... but my money is so tight since I'm in college I'll do what it takes to save a buck! I will be ordering one of those AFE 6637-type filters from you soon, though. Thanks for all your help and the PDF! Oh, and when she blows, I'll be getting everything to put on top of my new long block from you!

Yeah, your's looks good... I actually have 90's on mine. I was gonna go with 45's, but all he had was 90's and the more I thought about it, the more I really wanted it to go into the valley pan AWAY from the turbo. So, he put a 90 on one end and we tried to simulate the heads on my truck by bending the hose and cutting the hose to the overall length when bent with the fitting on the end would be approx. 12.5" end to end. I'll post pictures later to describe what I was doing. The plugs on the heads are approx 12.5" across the centers of each. Also read Clay's PDF about it... that's here:

BTW, it'd be nice if the moderators could add that to the tech folder... where is that thing anyways?

I did the in-tank mod at the same time and my truck seems to idle quieter and run a little smoother (especially when it's cold). I don't know how much to attribute to each mod, but both were well worth it to me (I got both from ITP Diesel). I got the SS HPX because I figured that the metal tubing would last longer than hose.

I also clipped the fill and vent lines inside the tank (harpoon mod) while I had it lying in my driveway. It took about 2 extra minutes to do and those few extra gallons have come in handy more than once. If you do that mod, I recommend buying a set of PVC cutters ($3 at Harbor Freight or $10 at Home Depot) to clip the lines. If you use a saw you risk cutting into the tank lining and you'll have a lot of shavings to clean up when you're done too. The PVC tool is one clean slice so all you have to do is remove the 3-4" of tubing you cut off.

Just my .02
