I was at my transmission shop this morning trying to get a handle on my 2-3 flare issue and had them check to oil and coolant temps with his code reader and at rest with the motor running my ECT was 181 and EOT was 179. This was right after a road test. Was this a good enoght reading or does it need to be while the truck in moving down the road. Thanks,Todd
The standard for the temps are a 15 degree spread. Anything more any you may have a problem building. The EOT will run higher when the vehicle is at full operating temperature which usuall takes about 10 miles for me on the highway. I pull mine with the edge insight or you can also use a scan gauge monitor or dashdaq.

With those readings your truck was no where near a complete warm up temp. Ect will be around 195. I doubt if they drove it more than 5 miles. Takes mine 10 to 15 miles hiwy for everything to equalize.
I drove 30 miles to get there and we did the test drive after that. We did sit there for about 5 min discussing the next steps in the fix it stage for the tranny. Reading the engine codes was an after thought. thats when we started it up and got those numbers. My tranny fluid was at operating temp of 150 so I thought maybe the other two were close also. I guess I'll have to find a way to do it while driving. Todd

IMO that's the best way. Like I said my ect settles out right at 195
ford wsm says to drive until ect gets to 195, and then perform a hard accel and if you get the eot more than 15 deg. diff the oil cooler is getting restricted.

I hardly ever hit 195 on my ECT. I have to have a heavy load on to get it up to that. I usually run around 183-185.
