how to? adjust fuel guage sending unit?

Just installed a new one, as my original had a crack in the float. Upon hooking it up after install, it read full when the tank was only about half full. It doesn't appear to be stuck or scraping any sides... so is moving freely. Is this just an adjustment that needs to be done? Thought I'd ask before messing with it and probably breaking it!

Thanks.

ebay. I sincerely hope that it is the right part.
C1TZ-9275 1961/1972 Pickup Original Guage Fuel Tank Sending Unit.
Manufactured by Vintique Inc.

Looks right, bolts in right... maybe due to not being the original gauge?

If all you needed was the float, you coulda bought it from Ford and saved a few bucks.

COAZ9202B .. Fuel Sending Unit Float / Available from Ford.

Fits ALL: 1957/79 Passenger Cars, Trucks, Bronco's & Econolines.

MSRP: $13.17 // FTE sponsor PARTSGUYED.COM price: $9.48.

The original 1961/76 In-Cab Fuel Tank Sending Unit was C1TZ9275K

In 1977, Ford replaced it with D7TZ9275G which is now obsolete.

There are 89 of these sending units available from Ford Dealers, obsolete parts vendors.

If the sending unit is rubbing the inside of the tank, you installed it wrong.

Take it off, re-install it...with the front side of the float parallel with the front of the tank.

Bill, yeah... I could just have bought the float... except that I broke the sending unit when I took it out (dropped it... or maybe threw it?).

Looks like the part numbers are the same, save for the "K" on the end?

All Ford part numbers from the mid 1950's thru today have a prefix (C1TZ) - basic part number (9275) - suffix (K).

Repro parts sellers do not always follow the rules, one reason why is...in order to use the complete Ford part number, they have to pay a license fee to FoMoCo to do this.

They get around this edict by only posting a portion of the part number.

Most ppl have no Ford parts catalogs (sigh), so they don't have a clue that they're only seeing a portion of the part number.

Dennis Carpenter is one of the very few repro parts sellers that uses complete Ford part numbers in his catalogs.

Is it possible you have half a tank of gas?
One can bend the rod if it is needed. I do not recomend that however. It should just be a drop in part. Call the company that sold it and ask what is going on. They should warrenty it since you just installed it.

Ford ought to be paying Dennis for all the Ford trucks he has kept on the road looking sharp using their old stamps. IMHO

regarding the lack of complete part numbers in catalogs, ebay, etc...

Many dont realize, or forget that just because their particular part might have been used only on their truck...our in cab fuel tanks for example...there could and probably is other sending units with the identical p/n...but with a different suffix letter/s which were used on different trucks...the suffix is a HUGE HUGE HUGE thing...Ive seen parts...NOS on ebay and the p/n is all there except the suffix and the seller says it fits x years of this when I know full well it wont even come close...I actually just saw a pair of integral t/light buckets in boxes being advertised as parking light buckets....with the seller posting the parking light bucket p/n!!!! It took me a bit of wasted time in parking light bucket area to see that the p/n was nowhere near right...and upon looking closer at the shape and attachment holes and such the light bulb went on...

Buyer beware...a good reason again why parts books are an invaluable tool to have...did I mention the suffix is a HUGE thing regarding the p/n ???

If you don't have the original guage then chances are the original sending unit isn't going to work properly. I replaced my guage with an after market unit that claimed to be compatible with Ford sending units. It was, but not this old of a sending unit, I think the replacement guages are meant for 70s rigs or something. I ended up having to get another new guage and a matching sending unit.

My "Ford compatible" guage read 3/4 full at empty, and needle went down as float rised. BTW I have a 65 F250 also.

D7TZ275G fits: 1961/66 F100/1100 / 1967/77 F100/750. 1977 was the last year for the In-Cab fuel tank.
