Hey Tom. Just wanted to let you know that Lynn's check engine light came back on after she stopped on the way home Sunday. When she came out and restarted the car the light popped on. Arrrgh!
Good morning all! Hopefully my schedule returns some what so I can join in on the conversations. 66 pages! wow I rember when 2 was a good month on here!
Hey Look who it is!! Hey there Dale! Nice to see you back on and hopefully we will see you more often. Hope everything is good with you!
Afternoon everyone! Hope everybody has had a good day! Mine has been busy again which is a good thing!!
Took my truck in to have an alinement done and, it was good. No corrections needed.
He did take my truck for a drive and said that my slight wandering problem may be a ball joint that is getting dry or tight. Huh, makes some sense. When I turn the wheel to make a little adjustment, it does not try to work it self back straight. They wanted $1000 to do all four ball joints. I can do all myself for $275, but is there an easy way to tell which is the tight one, or just replace them all, or even better is there a way to lubricate them. With only 68000 miles, I would think they are pretty good yet. Good thing is it did not cost me anything, but my buddy is the service manager.
On the gear swap front, I learned that Ford would not do it, and they said I can only go to 4.10, and they said that it will screw up the computer and possibly cause ABS faults. Is this true?
I then talked to the guy at Heartland and he said that I have a Dana 60 front and a sterling 10.5" rear. The 10.5" can not go bigger than 4.10, but he can put 10.25" parts into my case and make it 4.30. All parts and labor for $1300.
Now I am worried about giving the truck computer problems, but I know I can have 5star write me new programs for the gear change, but what is your guys thoughts?
I also talked to him about putting in limited slip. He said another $400 for that, but said with the weight I pull, they can tend to cause a shudder after a while if I pull a large 5er, and accelerate hard. Sounds like Tom's problem like Dave said, and sounds like how Tom drives, but he did not say anything about a toolbox.
Evening everyone!! Kinda quiet in here tonight. I had to work late myself and then mowed lawn...which took a while cause I dont have a fast mower like Lee!! haha
Lee sounds like you have some decisions to make. I would think that 4.10's would be sufficent myself and you dont have to worry about screwing with your computer. Dave will probably have the best advice when he comes along.
Lee I don't see how it would screw up the computer. You will need to adjust for the gear change, but Tom can probably help with that, or having the program done. ON the 4:30 portion. I thought you could, so I will check to be sure...
As for the ball joints, just do them all. It's best to. You have to take them all loose to do the lowers or vice-versa. They are a problem area for these trucks. Use Moog ball joints, they are the best, lifetime warranted, and grease-able...
Hey Dave!! Yeap I am just about to the sleep portion of the night too!! I had to use my old wrecker for tow tonight. Kinda sucks when I am use to the rollback. But funny thing the car I towed had a broken ball joint and it was a Ford. Just an Escort though. haha
I am not sure......I think Tom should have some kind of gift for whoever hits post 1000!! We can start with you....lets see mmmmm....headstuds for a 6.0!!!
Thats it Dave!! There are all sorts of prizes for everyone that hit post 1000 he just can't seem to open that toolbox to get them out. That or there on the bottom shelf and not considered topside work! Lol
