Wow, some fun stuff this after noon. But yeah, 3 doors I have!
Lee, if you want me to swap your gears, I can. My time is short for a bit, but I can do it and save you a bit of money...
Evening all.
Thanks for the offer Dave, I will let you know.
Where is the best place to price out gears, and what would I all need. I talked to the guy at Heartland, and he said if I wanted to go to a limited slip rear it would be $1200 + $450. Why would that be?
Good evening Lee! I am not sure on the best place to get gears as I have never had to do that. So that 1200 is for parts and labor or is that for parts and 450 for labor? I didnt realize gears were so much money.
Well I had and interesting evening. I got a call from my brother in the cities and he said he had a rattlesnake in his back yard!! He happend to spot it in the yard and went out to take a look. He called the police and they said they dont deal with that sort of thing. Alot of help they were. Then he called animal control but they werent around but the lady that answered said to leave a message and they would call in the morning! Once again no help at all. So he took matters into his own hands and the snake met its demise from a shovel. Here is a pic of it laying next to his bushes.
Yeah that is what we are figuring that it is some sort of pet that got to big. But they do have rattlesnakes in southeast MN I know they are called timber snakes or something like that. Don't worry it is no longer amongst the living. The shovel that cut it in two took care of that!
Lee, switching gears is just that. Switching gears. Making it a posi requires replacing the 'carrier' which is what the ring gear bolts to. There are a few different choices on carriers too. An OE like clutch based one, a spring based one, or a centrifugal one. Spring ones stink, the OE clutch based one is good. The best is a centrifugal style. There are also electronic or air locking ones too. But that would be overkill.
I'd assume they were replacing all the bearings too...
As for pricing gears and such I can do it for you if you'd like. I have good sources that a consumer can't use.
Otherwise search Ebay. Can be some good deals on there.
You will need Ring and Pinion kits for both the front and rear end, bearing kits for both, and a posi carrier for the rear. (I recommend going with an Auburn one).
Yeah no storms here but cooler outside. I should have mowed lawn tonight but didnt get to that. Now I suppose it will rain and it will be real tall before I get back to it!
