I noticed my rear diff burped up some diff oil through the breather. Maybe a tablespoon's worth. The breather tube is intact and routed up to frame rail, and has the 60 degree plastic fitting in the end. Other details:
Mag-Hytec cover, oil level within crosshatched zone.
Redline 75W140 oil, around 5 or 6 quarts, whatever MH said.
150K+ miles
Burp happened sometime during what most would call a rather strenuous weekend. Towed trailer and toys over the Sierras to Nevada desert and back. Took the truck on a 6 hour mine tour, where we climbed and descended some pretty steep grades, did some side grades, and up a few washes that had it twisted up pretty good. Took a few trails some guides say were "technical" and not recommended for long or wide wheelbase vehicles. Barely cleared a few spots due to lack of lockers. Temps were mild, mostly in the 70's. Diff temp (I have a gauge) never exceeded 250 degrees.
I'm thinking it may have been a result of one of the serious off camber moments leading to fluid sloshing up into tube?
Any one else ever experience this? I'm currently assuming normal, and will just check fluid and top off if necessary.
I haven't had my truck do it, but I do offroad very often with my Jeep and during situations like you have described I have had it happen to me. Mostly from being slightly overfilled though.
I don't think you should be to concerned about it. Like you already said, monitor fluid level, and temps. You should be good to go!
