I own a 94 Ford E-350. Its an ex U-haul box truck. I need to replace the rear springs because they are shot. The front springs look good. I would like to increase the payload capacity of the truck. Can I install 450 or 550 springs in my truck?
That's a very bad idea. The springs are only there to hold up what the rest of the vehicle can handle. You're looking at overloading tires, wheel bearings, the frame, brakes........... Plus, get caught going over the GVW posted by the manufacturer, and you're in for some legal trouble. If you get in an accident overloaded, you may be looking at being fully liable and suddenly uninsured.
Hi. Thanks for the information but I know that. Obviously the springs are shot from people renting it from U-Haul. I just want to put a little more spring under the truck. I am not looking to overload the heck out of it and break any laws. Do you have any information about Ford leaf springs?
I took my truck over to my local spring shop on Friday and they re-arched the springs and added another leaf. The springs were soft because of wear and tear. Truck sits high and strong. Thanks for all the tips.
