Weiand Intake?

Greetings!

Building a 460 for my F250 to pull my 8000# car trailer. Not a hot rod motor, I want something that will pull my trailer effortlessly at 70-75mph (3:55 gears/T18) and give 8-10 MPG.
What I have so far;

1973 passenger block/crank/rods
E6TE-DA heads
GM style HEI (Proform)
Flat top pistons
"Pulling" cam (comes with the engine kit).

I traded for a Weiand Stealth intake, #8012. Would this intake be beneficial in my application or should I re-use my cast iron one? Weiand says it makes power from idle to 6800, this engine will never get over 4000rpm, cruise around 2800rpm. I plan on using a 4100 Autolite carburetor.

IMO the 8012 is the best dual plane manifold ever made for a 460. 373's would probably be a better gear for what you want to do.

Thanks!
I'm thinking of blocking the crossover heat and using an electric choke, would that make the thing too "cold natured"?

Actually it is a good idea for two reasons.

First, the cooler the carb the better for power making, both torque and horsepower.

Second fuel economy will increase.

Down side is slower warm up, but with a tow vehicle, what's the rush, take an extra 5 minutes on start up to check the hitch, safety chains, wheel lug nuts, tire pressure and lights.

The only reason the crossover exists is to speed up warm up so impatient driver don't have to wait. You don't see a crossover on EFI systems because they compensate with timing and the fuel delivery.

The stealth has huge runners. It would be a terrible intake for your application.

Do a little research, we are talking about the 8012. It's recomended from idle to 6800 rpm. It does not have "huge" runners.

I run the 8021 on my 466 with A429 heads, and yes the port at the head is larger than the 8012, but the two intakes are the same from roughly an inch back from the head to the carb flange. And compared to a stock intake, performer, or even the performer rpm, the stealth ports are HUGE. Dude said he doesn't want to run it past 4k, I'd run a performer. Never a stealth.

It 55 mph mine isn't even turning 4000rpm and the improvement I got over the performer when I took off was like night and day. It comes out of the hole a lot stronger and I can tell a little better throttle response.

Interesting, I always like watching this kind of stuff but it really doesn't apply to the 460 & the stated manifolds.

But still, completely irrelevant for a 460.

Good thread, this is exactly what I am intending to do. I just picked up an '85 E350 Club Wagon with a good running 460 in it and I have a nice set of C9VE heads to go on it. I am planning to pull this sorry-a$$ed 7.3 out of my F250 and put the 460 in it.
