OK. I'm going to buy a trans go kit. but now i can't choose witch one.
there is the HD2 and the Trugger what is the main difference. I tow allot on weekends 3000 to 10000 pounds. but at the same time the truck is a everyday driver.i like to put the truck in drive and just mash the go pedal and not worry about the shifting. thanks John
The Tugger mods more stuff, and I like mine. But the HD2 kit is nearly the same, from what I can tell. But if you're looking at pulling, get the Tugger. When you put it in, don't worry about pulling the solenoid pack (they all seem to me mod'ed already). I only mod'ed the Main & Accumulator VBs, and it's a night & day difference! You *can* pull the trans to mod the pump too, if you feel froggy, but I didn't. And mine is still holding up right now (somehow LOL). Good luck!!
so if i buy the Tugger kit its like buying both. the main thing is i want to firm up the shift so it not sluggish between shift and burning up my clutch pack.I would like to drill out the v/b for better oil flow to.
From what I can determine, the HD2 converts the shifting to manual.
Is that, indeed, the case? Do you lose "automatic"?
Pop
No -- never heard of that one!

I wouldn't be drilling anything unless it says to in the instructions. The Tugger has a pump mod that increases flow, but again, you have to pull the trans to do it. I was tempted to, but I have a 2WD and no trans cradle or lift. I *really* didn't want to mess with pulling it in my driveway...
There is some drilling, depending on the version of VB you have, but it isn't for flow. Just follow the instructions to the letter, do one bore at a time on the accumulator VB, and you'll like the results. I went with the max hole size on the calibration plate as I like my shifts firm & fast, but they don't bang. An excellent mod.
If/when you get tunes, tell your tuner you have a mod'ed trans to they get the shifts right. When I did mine, I had DP tunes for a stock trans and they weren't good. Once I got the tunes to match, it was AWESOME! This is one of the top mods you can do to these trucks, IMHO.
Like Izzy I went with the tugger kit but didn't pull the transmission to mod the pump. I've had it in a year and definitely love the change in shift firmness. It got even better once I put in my DPTuner!
I want to start to do my trans since i changed my injectors.Does anyone know how much the stock trans with a bts vb can take for awhile? I want to do a full trans from bts but shipping and core to and from will probably be at least 600.00 each way so if a do a full rebuild in hawaii with a new converter from bts and transgo thugger with new clutches, should i be good?
How does the Transgo kit compare to a BTS Valvebody?....Will the Transgo perform better....?
Brian uses Transgo parts to modify the accumulator valve body. John Woods uses the Sonnax kit (like Pop) to modify the accumulator valve body. The difference with those is that it comes pre-assembled and all you have to do is drop the pan, unbolt your accumulator valve body and bolt the new one in it's place.
If you buy the Transgo kit, you get to change out the springs and shims yourself, plus modify the main valve body in addition to the accumulator valve body. Search for Mike's thread on the Transgo install and go to Transgo's website and watch their install video. It doesn't show all the steps, but it covers the basics.
Last but not least, DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM OREGON PERFORMANCE TRANSMISSION. They are a bunch of idiots. (actually I think it's a one man idiot show). I ordered a Tugger kit from them and it was missing a shim. OPT argued with me for several days that the missing piece was from Ford and I must have lost it. Once I called Transo direct to find out how to buy the missing part, they apologized and over nighted one out right away. If that idiot at OPT knew anything about the stuff he sells, he would have known how easy it was to get the free replacement part from Transgo. Instead he argued even after I sent him pictures and the parts list showing it was supposed to be included. He just kept telling me to call Ford.
If you're considering doing it yourself, search on here for other threads regarding the transgo kit. It it hadn't been for some of those threads I would have screwed something up.
