I've noticed on some trucks they have front brackets bolted to the frame then the bumper bolts to them. Mine (79) bolts directly to the frame without the extra brackets?? Can someone explain why that is. More heavy duty??
Are you saying the front bumper sits further forward than usual ?
I've never seen one where the bumper bolts don't go directly through the bumper and frame
but you may be talking about the extra support bracket on the outer ends, both my trucks have these, but the center four bolts would have to be through the frame or the bumper would be in the wrong place.
Oh I wish I could post a picture and it would be cleared up..These brackets bolt to the frame kinda like the back bumper brackets the the front bumper bolts to the brackets.?? My bumper bolts bolt directly through the bumper and through the frame.
IIRC the F350 has separate bumper brackets. the frame finishes flush, bumper brackets bolt to the frame and the bumper / bull bar / whatever goes on the brackets.
some idiot cut the front of my frame off so they could put on a heavy duty bull bar.

Exactly!! So the F-350s had them... What's IIRC stand for? By the way thanks!
My 77 F250 4x4 has the brackets. I have no idea why Ford did that other than making it a pain in the butt to mount a bumper if you can't find brackets.
