I've seen more then one "Fresh Rebuilt" motor broken ...
IIRC you don't know that it's freshly rebuilt, it could have been slammed together in a swamp with old broken pistons and twisted rods!
Rep points for that one... Unless you've got the paperwork from the machine
shop, you have absolutely no idea what's been done to it. One of the reasons
why I bought my truck was because of its "rebuilt" engine but with no
supporting paperwork. It started puffing oil on startup about a year later so I
pulled it out and took it apart to take a look, I was hoping for valve guides or
something easy like that.
Man, the jokers who put that thing together should have been exiled to Siberia,
it was CLEARLY not done in a professional manner. First clue was the handful
of blue RTV chunks in the bottom of the oil pan, second clue was the RTV that
had blocked the coolant flow through the heads, it looks like some dumass
put RTV on the head gaskets (pictures at https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...ssageways.html).
Even in these forums, you'll read about people trying to "rebuild" their engines
themselves, merely by replacing a bunch of parts. Engine building is an art
AND a science that involves a LOT more than merely replacing components
and painting the outside....
ctubutis,
It's funny you mention this, I have a Jeep 258 (4.2L) in right now that some "Professional ASE Certified Mechanic" in MI resealed the plastic rocker cover for some folks here in Maine while they were out there visiting, They are lucky they made it home, Most any other motor would have scattered with what I'm finding. Bearings are deep into copper, crank is wiped and best of all, A valve stem THROUGH a rocker, it's oiler hole up though the pushrod was packed full of Sillycone, so were several others but they are just deep into the rocker, not through. Not to mention the chunks of Sillycone and other debris found laying on the lifter way. Unfortunately the pan had been recently off and it and the pickup were cleaned so I didn't get to see what was there, and of course whoever did it used what looks like 2 tubes of red sillycone on a RUBBER pan gasket... A BIG NO NO ... Never use sealants on rubber gaskets.
One of the things I learned many years ago when buying was to look for Sillycone around gaskets... See Sillycone - Don't walk away, RUN!
well im gonna rebuild the motor correctly...lol ill even have a motor build thread ^_^ it wont happen for a few months unless people wanna help me get it lol its under 400 bucks i just have no job right now >_>
also when i rebuild the motor some time after that i wanna put a super charger on the motor but i cant find anyplace for a charger other then turbo...and i liek turbo but i dont want a turbo on a truck..i want a super charger!!!
a broken plug will cause a knock. I've seen worse plugs, I've seen engines that have been rebuilt with chrome rings they take a long time to seat (around 5000miles) and that will foul up plugs if the rings have not seated yet as oil is blowing by.
