I am also shopping for 5er, have been for two years. More than ever now that I bought a boat and can't tow a TT and a boat together, that's real close to what I'm looking for, with the exception of the bunkhouse. The Onan Gen is a great add on! A couple of things I've noticed in the past couple of years are that RV companies are going out of business left and right due to the recession we had. So the question you have to ask is that company still in business, would be nice if they are for obtaining parts. Also 5er prices are high right now probably due to the recession as well, people lost their homes and were buying them for a alternative living arrangement. The market is still High IMO and like when the truck market was high I think the bottom will fall out soon. Just my .02 cents for what its worth. Very nice 5th IMO.
That's a nice looking trailer.
Lot's of nice appointments and the generator is a big plus if you plan on dry camping.
What I don't like about that trailer is the very limited kitchen counter space.
If you want to use the stove, that puts the sink out of commision if you want to have any sort counter space for food prep.
And visa versa, if you want to have some counter space, for clean up or to make a sandwitch, then the stove is covered up.
It's OK if you don't mind the constant switching back and forth, but for Kriss and I when we go to RV shows and we see that sort of floor plan it's just really tight for space when it comes time to fix a meal.
Both of our trailers have had the kitchen on the passenger side of the trailer with a good sized counter and it really works well.
Next to the door is the stove/microwave, then some counter space, then the sink at the end of the counter.
Our food storage/refrigerator is located where the stove/sink area is on that trailer.

Can you sleep with the generator running? most generators are noisy and vibration is horrible.
No problem flipping the axles. Just don't drop the trailer on yourself . It's pretty common and, although I know a lower center of gravity may contribute to better handling, I don't think it's worth it.
Steve
I have an Outback and this thing has only about 4.5" clearance from ground. I am going to do an axle flip, which is actually not "flipping" at all. I bought a kit from Dexter trailer axle manufacturer. With the kit installed, the leaf spings are moved from below the axle to above the axle and it would add about 4" height. Cost for a dual axle kit is $100.

My In-Laws trailer is that way and ours is opposite like what you plan on doing. They have hangers on the rear that prevent the trailers bumper from scraping going in drives and such what. I guess its six of one and half a dozen of the other because theirs tows nicer with the low profile and ours doesn't scrap but is high profile which creates for worse towing, drag and swaying.
I don't see how the hangers (with rollers attached) would save the day unless it is a minor scrape....otherwise either the hanger is going to break or trailer frame will be bent out of square....something has to give.
Nice red couch. J/K
Just seems a little out of place and change from the normal neutral color schemes that RV's usually come in.
I love our 2006 Cougar bunkhouse but my kids appreciate it just a tad bit more.
Plus, they don't have to move their bedding every morning when we want to have breakfast on the table or sit on the couch. It has a hitch mounted on the back as well for towing a double. It has hangers welded on the rear frame and they work great. I needed them to get it up my driveway on our property in the mountains. You can barely see them in this picture.
Thanks, it's quite a long load (32') but it pulls real nice. It has the storage garage in the back for all the hoses, wheel blocks, tools etc. I would highly recommend the Cougar to anyone. Solid unit.
The 40-something suburban moms in my neighborhood get a laugh about the name though - Cougar...

So ended up buying a 36' Keystone Montana Big Sky w/ 3 slides weighing in at 11,000 lbs for 15K. I am upgrading from a litlle 22 ft TT so maybee I will be able to make it to Riff Raff East. Here's a few pics.
I spent a lot of time researching and asking folks at the campgrounds about different brands. Keystone or Forrest River are both good long term camper manufacturers.
Craigslist is a great way to find a "new to you" camper or to sell if you are upgrading.
If you start looking at a $20K used camper, you may want to try looking at a new one. There are a couple of dealers on the internet that will sell you a new from the factory camper for not much over cost. I bought mine at Christmas and saved $18K off of list. It shipped to me from the factory. Cougar 324RLB. HUGE camper and the kids have plenty of room.
If you are coming to the RRE from the west and on I-40, you may see me on the way. I am in Lebanon, TN (mile marker 236 in Tennessee).
