Headlight pull ****

92 f150 4x4 5-speed 158,000 miles. My dash lights went out on me last night. I could turn the **** and it would work for a little while. But with my dash lights out it make my tag light, tail lights and front marker lights not work. I am thinking that the dimmer switch in the headlight pull **** has something to do with this. I can now turn my headlight pull **** around left to right and dash light not working. I did check my fuses. I replaced on 15 fuse that was blown. I could move the pull **** left and right and make the tail lights working. Anyone ever have the problem and can you tell me how to fix this. Thanks

my problem isnt the same, but also weird. my switch is broken, and when you pull the **** all the way out you get only headlights, then push it back in just a bit, and the rest come on. i would try to find a cheap switch out of a junk truck

I think the fuse for your taillights is blown. I am talking to both of you on this. The power for the instrument lights comes off the taillight fuse, then it has a 5 amp fuse of it's own.

I had this happen to me when I was bringing a trailer that my FIL gave me home from Arkansas. The wiring on the trailer was faulty and blew my tailight fuse. I could press the **** in a little bit and it would then make the lights work. I thought my switch was bad, too, but it was the fuse.

to add to jas88 you might want to crawl under your trucks this weekend and see if you can find a dead short where your power wire has grounded to the body... this can cause the fuse to blow just like faulty trailer wiring. Also check the rear trailer pig tail/plug. Sometimes these trucks get rewired from owner to owner depending on what they need it for and wires can be left dangling or not covered... had 2 trucks with this problem thus far myself...

I would replace your switch for sure. However when you unplug the harness from the switch check for burnt connections. These trucks seem to have a reoccuring problem with overheating the harness and burning off the connection to the switch.
Mine did it twice and the second time I installed a relay under the hood to supply power to all the exterior running lights and trailer lights directly from the battery rather than pulling all those amps thru the switch and I haven't had any problems since. Especially handy pulling campers that tend to have tons of running lights plastered over all sides.
