This fire hit particularly hard. The house and barns were built in 1889. Been in the family for 5 generations. Nobody hurt, at least physically...

Tami, my friend Ed's wife, sat in my pumper truck and cried for two hours. I finally gave her a couple of Valiums and took her home to my wife. She's still sleeping, and I'm glad I'll be working when she wakes up.

I just don't know how I'll face her. I couldn't save her home.............

Don sorry to hear about your freinds loss of the ranch. Did they at least have insurance to replace what they lost?

That's bad news. Sorry Don.

My truck is still broken... at the shop for 3.5 weeks so far. I normally do all my own work, but this problem was above my head so I took it in. They diagnosed it, replaced the Low Pressure Oil Pump, and still isn't running. Quoted me $1300 just for what they've done so far. Now they might have to pull the engine.

Very sorry Don and everyone for your challenges. When things seem to go this way, I always remember Bill Cosby's comedy routine from the 80's. Never challenge the word "worse". So true.

However not everthing is all bad. Last month my daily driver 65 F100 developed a problem with the steering. Wouldn't turn, not good. Finally discovered the king pin had frozen. (probably should have been better at greasing them regularly) So, after cursing for a week or so, I decided it was probably time to swap the frame like I had been planning forever. (PO cut about a foot of the rear of the frame!?) While cleaning and painting the other frame, I decided it would be a great time to add power disc brakes. Started watching Craigslist and found a kid that had a 73 Ratrod truck that he wanted to get rid of. Kind of ugly but had a 360, C6, with power steering and power disc brakes. Perfect. Discovered after talking to him that it had the dropped i-beams and the rear axel had been moved to the top of the springs (really low), plus a number of new parts for the motor and brakes. Even better. Made a deal with him and had him bring it to my place. I also have a SNB truck that I've never fixed because it sat to high for me. So now I could lower that with the parts from the 73. Yesterday I noticed some one in Scio had a SWB bed only for sale. My favorite! But it's in Scio and I'm in Redmond and have no way to get it, plus I have to replenish my car fund by selling some of the parts off the 73 before I can buy anything else. Anybody need any 73 parts?

In todays world we are all only a step away from homeless, but thought you might enjoy the story. Still haven't decided whether to build the SNB into a little hot rod or not. What's everybody's thoughts?

Don I don't even know what to say man, so sorry for your hardship. I am sure you did everything you could to save your friends house and they will appreciate your efforts!
Times are very bad everywhere... seems like life just keeps kicking good people in the face... me included but now compared to your friends loss and what you must be going through my problems seem small. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Seems like everyone is getting kicked in the crotch lately, a real run of sour luck.
I am sure you did everything you could, Don.
Find a place yet?

Thanks for the kind words and prayers guys. Tami hugged me tonight and told me she knows we did all we could, but I still feel like crap.....

The ranch was insured and they'll get a check, but the place was full of antiques and family treasures that can't be replaced by money. Ed and Tami said they won't rebuild and will probably move out of state. Tami refused to even go back there today, and said she never will. So I not only lost a great place to hunt and visit with long time friends, but will probably never see either one of my friends again when they move from Oregon. Sometimes life really sucks..........

No Dave, I haven't found a place to move yet, and have no more places to look..........
