You might have another issue going here. If the filter pops out you get the converter locking in reverse problem. Bogs and stalls the engine. You can get the same issue in drive while coming to a stop. You might have a problem with the reverse piston seal. Hopefully not, because you know where that is.

today after work my brother and i are going out to weymouth MA to look at a f-250 7.3 super cab short bed. i hope its as nice as its described, so far everything we look at has been lies and bondo.

I went through many many months of that before I settled on my current truck. And I ended up driving 2.5 hours 1 way to look at it somewhere south of Boston, and again to take delivery.
