I decided to pull the trigger and pick up this truck. Supposedly a 1976 F-100 4x4 but that is up for interpretation.
When I got her home...
After a few hours of rubbing down the hood to reveal that it's actually black! It's like the worlds biggest scratch off ticket.
Now for the issues...
I believe the large pump in the lower left is the transmission cooler pump(?) There's no belt running on the pulley. I think this might be a problem
Also, she seems to idle REEEEALLLY fast. This is the the first carbureted engine I've worked on so don't expect that anything ought to be obvious to me.
It probably is a '76.
As it has a brake booster.
Post up the VIN and I'll tell you for sure.
Your starting out with a nice truck, If you don't want those tie-downs, I'll have 'em.
Maybe set the idle down.
Your VIN is F11YUA78944.
F11 = F-100 4 Wheel Drive.
Y = 360ci V8 with a 2-Barrel Carburetor.
U = Louisville, KY Assembly Plant.
Your truck was built in November of '75, Which makes it a '76.
The brake booster has a vacuum line running somewhere, most likely to the back of the carb or an intake fitting.
I do not see a pump on the "left" but I do see the A/C compressor. But you do not have factory air, so either you have a dealer installed A/C or that engine was just transplanted and they kept the compressor for some reason.
The transmission cooler (for automatics) connects to the bottom of the radiator or a lot of guys also run an external cooler in front of the radiator.
The ac lines run inti the firewall, so you must have the dealer installed air.
Can't see the lower left, but if it has pulleys it has to be the alternator or more likely the smog pump.
Moving on...
I do have the smaller radiator in front of the main one. Here is a shot of the interior. Would that box next to the glove compartment be a dealer installed A/C?It Doesn't seem to work and seems to be full of some kind of rubbery gunk.
Also, What is this little box hanging under the dash?
I want to rid this truck of all unnecessary wires as a lot of them dead end to no where and I would like to not die in an electrical fire
LOL I was looking at the wrong picture. That is definitly a trailor brake controller, it will likely be old school with a brakeline hooked into the mastercylinder.
