Is it normal for the engine RPM's to jump when shifting into park? The engine seems to lope along while in drive, but then when I shift into park, the RPM's skyrocket?
So, now for an update...
Monday- Installed new air cleaner, breather, radiator coolant, and raditator cap.
Tuesday - Began degreasing, and then despite my best effort, drowned the distributor.
Wednesday - experienced the first case of death wobble! Will be checking tie rod ends and wheel bearings tomorrow evening.
I am looking at the above picture, and I didnt realize the dealer mounted the AC compressor on its side rather then up and down with the dealer add on AC. I think that is the same compressor used in factory installed applications, but from the factory the fittings are on the top. Somebody correct me if I am wrong?
I have a 79 with dealer air addon, that looks like what you have, the evaporator box is behind the dash...and can be a pain to work on,but it does a good job when working
You know I was super happy to take that comp off my old truck but I'm thinking I might be really interested in havin' that big lump in the engine bay in my new truck here in a few months!
Triumph, I see you're in GA too. I was thinking the same thing, but the whole system looked to be in rough shape so it had to go.
The saga continues though, I drove her to work today, and she's spending the night. The alternator appears to have bit the dust! Can't go more than about 50' without a jump start lol. Gonna learn a lot from this one.
Jeepers, yeah, I'm in Athens, and sometimes Augusta on the weekends. Where are you at? As far as the Alt, I would check the fusible links that are somewhere around the starter solenoid on the pass side of the engine bay. I had that problem too, turns out the fuseable link was good but the wire broke where it was going into the link.
I work on Fort Gordon for a general contractor. Too embarrassed to say which (long story)
today, I determined that the alternator was good and battery is charging at advance auto as we speak. I believe I found the source of the power issue...The line that goes from the alternator to the battery was not connected to anything So I put that back on and we'll see if that does it.
I did discover that in the process of pushing the old girl off the street, I destroyed what was left of the rubber coupler disk on the steering column. So, I bought another one of those, and also bought the track bar bushing that I noticed was pooped out. I'll install those tomorrow and hopefully she'll be running strong again tomorrow.
