What type of symptoms will there be with a failing or failed IPR Valve?

Thanks-

I had about three not start conditions over about a 4 month period. The only way it would start was by squirting some diesel into the intake elbow. The last time it would not start, I followed Bismic's no-start flowchart. I suspected the IPR and removed it. It had a little debris on the screen. When I tested it by applying voltage, it would not actuate. I replaced it and have not had any problems since. The hardest part was removing and installing the IPR.

They make a screen and gasket kit for the IPR for about $53. I am not sure if an upgraded IPR valve is needed for this, but it is much cheaper than buying a whole new valve for about $220.00. It is a bit tedious to get to the IPR though. A little bit of debris left in the HPOP system will continue to blow out the IPR screen which was my experience. I think there is a way to purge the oil prior to re-installing a new IPR valve/screen but do not know. I ended up installing a new HPOP while I was in there along with a new IPR valve. As this was the third and final time with the IPR screen blowing out, I cleaned the whole reservoir before and after the HPOP filter screen going to the HPOP of debris. This did the trick.
Maybe someone else can chime in.
BTW, the symptoms are familiar to what I experienced with my IPR.

Do you recall the $$ paid for the HPOP? Did you get it through Ford or International?

I think I paid around $600 for it and tired to get through International which would have been a bit cheaper but with no success. I got the feeling they did not want to sell directly to me for some reason though I had gotten the part number from the list here on FTE. Ended up getting at Ford dealer.

I checked my file and cannot find the International HPOP part number. I believe the same part has different #'s between Ford and International. I cant remember how I got the numbers from this site but post a question for it and I am sure someone will give you direction.
