Cruising down the road at 55 mph, I felt a pop and then the engine just stopped running.
When I tried to start it up, no oil pressure. It appears that the IPR valve may have failed, but I'm curious if the pop was a catastrophic IPR failure or an indication of something else?

Depending on your year could have been a STC fitting.
Unfortunately, odds are on the HPOP. Hopefully the IPR screen is still intact. You could disconnect the ICP to rule it out. Slight chance the flex line to the rail under the valve cover(s) broke at the connection, especially if it has been worked on recently. Check this video top of the page here for more info on that: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post13618935
Would a blown hpop explain the "pop" I heard and felt before she quit running?
Could have been the ball bearing coming out the side......mine never popped, more of a gradual loss of power as I was cresting a hill with a skidloader in tow. She just gradually died, was not a pop or sudden shut down. At any rate, don't be afraid to think about digging into the engine if you can turn wrenches. As Rusty mentioned need to rule other things out like a oil rail supply line. Air test will tell you a lot, however not quite as easy on early builds due to the ICP location, but doable. Not sure but maybe a partially blown ICP sensor would pop? Any oil leaks underneath towards the back, maybe on the bell housing?
