Ok the truck that I have has a 351M and it had a T18 manual with 4x4 and now it has the same 351M but it has an E4OD bolted to it and the transfer case that was on the
E4OD is also under there. I would only need like 4" for it to be long enough but that just doesn't cut it. It's a 1978 single cab long bed with a 4" lift on it.

1979 F150/350 4WD T18 Part Time Drive: 82" long.
1979 F150/350 4WD T18 Full Time Drive: 94 1/2" long.
E40D's were introduced in the late 1980's. I don't know if the fitting on the speedo cable for an E4OD will attach to your 1978 speedometer head.

How is he going to screw the cable in a E4OD, seeing as the E4OD doesn't have drive gear to begin with? The '90s trucks had electronic speedometers.

I am headed to the shop out back to get some white lithium in the old speedometer cable. If that isn't motivation to fix your old cable, I don't know what is.

The speedo cable goes in the tcase, but E40Ds came out before 92 and thats when the speedo went to the rear.
