In 1978, Ford introduced a locking hood kit for F100/350's and Bronco's. Could be retrofitted to 1973/77 F100/350's.
All the parts are the same for both. Econolines also got a locking hood kit, but only the latch is the same as F100/350/Bronco.
The F100/350/Bronco locking cable is also the same as 1975/76 Granada/Monarch.
All the parts are obsolete, only a few latches are available NOS, everything else is not available.
In cab or in car hood cable release types have been a curse on me. Several times I've been locked out of my hood due to faulty cables or latches. No thanks.
They are a nice and sometime required option, depending on where you live. And yes the cable is small and can break easily. Then you have a pita time getting the hood open.
Imagine a under the hood fire and that little cable breaks.
78/79 Bronco and 73-79 truck for the most part have the same front clip, so if you can find on on a 78/79 Bronco it should swap right over.
Get the locking hood latch truck part or from a van and mod a none locking 80's and up ish T handle cable?
Pretty sad... can't tell you how many cars I have had with hood latches and have never, ever had one break a cable. First was bought I believe 1978 ('68 Mercedes sedan) and covers VW, Renault, Dodge, Isuzu, Hyundai, Triumph, Ford, Pontiac, Chevrolet, Geo that come to mind since then... but Ford TRUCKs break?
Well HoustonDave you are the lucky guy then, I have seen a couple of 73-79 Ford truck ones break over the years and one was at a VERY bad time to have you hood locked.
In my local JY I see the newer 80's none locking T handle set up's broke too. Either at the cable crimp area or at the back side of the T handle.
I think a hand brake on a bicycle has a bigger cable. If I was really wanting to put a locking one my truck, I would up grade the cable for sure.
Probably true... too, there is maintenance that has to be performed on them too and I'm pretty strong o that. Too, '70's Fords were not real strong on detail quality control - kept me fed like that when I worked for a Ford-Fiat dealer. Work galore!
Yes and if the hood is not set to "pop" when the handle is pulled and you need to do the Ford truck hood tap on the sweet spot trick...... Hard to do pull the handle and tap the hood at the same time.

I installed a locking latch in mine for primary theft deterrent. I have enough room through the fender wells if I have a problem, but I don't want my truck to be stolen.
