That is a nice article.. I changed my filter a couple years ago when i did my TC.. This spring i am going to just flush it. I will do this every couple of years. I average about 8 to 10k a year. Every spring Change motor Syn Oil. Every other flush Trans. This is the oil i used and was recommended to be just fine..
DON'T power flush it... Just use the method of pulling the return line from the cooler and running clear hose to a catch container. Use the motor to pump out the pan, and when you see LARGE bubbles in the line, stop and refill the pan (6-7 quarts). As the motor runs, cycle through the gears.
I run full-syn Mobil1 Mercon V. Ford discontinued the use of Mercon (even though some companies still make it), and changed the Mercon V specs to work with our transmissions several years ago. I switched back in '08 and have been abusing my stock trans pretty hard with no issues (knocking on wood!).
Not to hi-jack but while your here Mark, would a nice trans filtering system be good to catch all the clutch dust and other contaminates thats floating around in there?? Its time for me too soon so I thought why not do it while I'm in there, thanks as always.
