Trans fluid change

Hello all, I plan on changin my trany fluid today and was wonderin if I

need to replace the filter when I do it? I read somewhere that the filters

on these are pretty good and dont need changin for a while. I have a 01

F250 with 83,000 on it. What trany do I have and what fluid do I need to

put back in? Thanks for the help.

Filter

I would do the filter while you are there, they arent that expensive.

Here is a link to changing the fluid, I have done 3 trucks this way now.

That is a nice article.. I changed my filter a couple years ago when i did my TC.. This spring i am going to just flush it. I will do this every couple of years. I average about 8 to 10k a year. Every spring Change motor Syn Oil. Every other flush Trans. This is the oil i used and was recommended to be just fine..

If I have my tranny power flushed, how important is it to change the filter?

DON'T power flush it... Just use the method of pulling the return line from the cooler and running clear hose to a catch container. Use the motor to pump out the pan, and when you see LARGE bubbles in the line, stop and refill the pan (6-7 quarts). As the motor runs, cycle through the gears.

I run full-syn Mobil1 Mercon V. Ford discontinued the use of Mercon (even though some companies still make it), and changed the Mercon V specs to work with our transmissions several years ago. I switched back in '08 and have been abusing my stock trans pretty hard with no issues (knocking on wood!).

Not very important. This is a boulder catcher, not a fine filter. If there is enough junk to plug the filter the trans is already toast.

Not to hi-jack but while your here Mark, would a nice trans filtering system be good to catch all the clutch dust and other contaminates thats floating around in there?? Its time for me too soon so I thought why not do it while I'm in there, thanks as always.
