Hello all, been a while since I posted anything here...the truck's been great. Driving to work last week it suddenly started some pretty serious "clunking" followed by a high-speed "buzzing". Whatever it was shook the floorpan under my feet. Put it on a hoist and checked everything within my means.4wd works good, rear end is good,u-joints,etc.
Sometimes I will go to work and back and not a peep, other times it does it as soon as I pull out of the driveway, or out of the blue while travelling at highway speeds. Also tried shifting on the fly when it makes the noise....doesn't make any difference.
I have a long haul from central Ontario to the West side of Michigan coming up to pick up a boat and I'd like to figure this out before I go....any ideas guys??
THX

you might try more testing. how about taking your foot off the gas, does it change? shift into neutral, do you still have vibration? touch the brake pedal, does it go away? Need to see if its related to motor speed, drive shaft speed, or brake pressure... Does the front end wobble like it could be tie rods or loose steering?
Tried all that Steve, I also took a big rubber mallet and beat the @#$% out of the entire undercarriage, and took a big prybar to all the mounts, joints, heatshields, etc, etc. I fear it may be something internal within the transfer case or front axle....pretty hard to diagnose when it happens on a whim-it'd be a lot easier if it would do it all the time for sure. I was hoping someone else had the misfortune of these types of noises. It would not be fun if whatever is happening decides to show up half way to Michigan.
