unknown tranny part. what is it?

Changing the tranny fluid and filter on my 97 f150 today. Daughter had told me the tranny sounded funny some times when going down the road, not always but just ocasionally. This was in the pan when I pulled it. not a clue where it goes or what it is. Hoping some one can help me out. Trying to decide if i can put filter and pan back on and fill with fluid and risk driving 13 miles to the tranny shop or risk divorce by asking my wife to help me tow the thing in. anyone know what this is and how important is it

All is well. Just toss it.
That is just the plug used for the dipstick tube. Instead of removing the plug and installing the dipstick tube at assembly they push it into in the pan.
