By the way, Tarnation, seems we have both ordered the same -- Estate green EB. And I, too, had a 98 EB. But my lease ended a year and half or so ago and I turned it in. Have been driving a smaller truck (Acura MDX) since then but missed the big ride. Ordered all options except for Navigation; Moonroof and Rear Seat Entertainment (DVD). Having second thoughts about maybe adding the moonroof.
Yep, sounds like we ordered the same truck. I was going to have the Navigation System but since it was delayed, I opted not to. $2,000 is hard to justify when I am not sure how much I would use it but it does look cool. I haven't had a moonroof in a car in 10 years. When I bought my wife a '03 Volvo XC, it had a moonroof and I really enjoy it so I decided to add that option on mine.
There is a very active Acura MDX site, and its members rave about the Navi system for the MDX. But, it is DVD based which I think makes a big difference. There are very good aftermarket choices, though, for about 1/3 the price. As for moonroof, I have loved it on the MDX, which is the first car I ever had with one. I was wondering if it reduces the structural integrity of the truck at all. Anyhow, I had to draw the line somewhere on the extravagence of this order!

The nav system does double as an AM/FM stereo. When you order the nav system, it puts the Audiophile 6 CD player back into the center console. I'm not sure if the screen displays anything if you shut both the navigation and the radio off. I see from the picture from the brochure that there is a CD slot on the top of the nav/radio, but I think this is just for mapping CD's.
I havn't seen anything on aftermarket dealer installation from Ford. I know there would have to be a GPS receiver, the nav system, and the 6 CD changer in the console installed. I wouldn't think that all vehicles would have the navigation wiring harnesses preinstalled either. I bet it would be very expensive to try to install Ford's nav system after the vehicle was built without it.
If you did want a nav system later on, there are plenty of aftermarket systems available. Good Luck.

Is there a site where you can go and see where your vehicle is as far as production. I know mine has been sccheduled but don't have a date as of yet. Waiting for my dealer to call me back with that info. as well as faxing me a copy of the order. BTW, how is your's coming along. Is it still on hold due to the Nav.?
I sent you a message to help you track your vehicle order. I hope it helps!
Mine is still on hold for the nav. system, I had a Ford rep call me last week from the branch office. They told me the nav systems should be in around the end of May or first of June. And since mine is already serialized, it would be one of the first ones built with the nav. systems. I'm still patiently waiting

Talked to the dealer yesterday and he said it was built. It will take about 2 weeks to get to North Carolina. However, I also heard that they were still holding back the '03 Exp. so I called customer service at Ford Motor Company and she is checking into it. She is supposed to call me back today.
BTW, I never got your message about a tracking site.
Well...I guess I should have known better than to believe a customer service person from Ford. After all the phone calls and promises, she could not get anyone to do what she committed to do. So no early test drive for me. Glad to hear everyone is getting there's. I must admit, ordering something without even driving it is very brave.
My concerns over the 2003X were the power and the towing sag in the rear end with any tongue weight on the new 2003 without the load leveling. Ford should have introduced the 2003 with the load leveling, 3 valve 5.4 and the 4.6L Diesel and the Sirus Satillite radio. The other thing that bothers me is the styling. Now that I have seen more pics in everyday environments, the thing just looks like an Explorer's bigger brother. No doubt, the A/C seats and the power fold flat rear seats are way cool, but the thing just doesn't get my attention. Other's agree (See Ann Job's review in MS Carpoint- Not that I always agree with her...)I even thought about going over to the dark side earlier in the year(GM).
So, like anyone cares...I've decided to go with an new Limited Excursion 7.3L Diesel with a 2.5" lift, custom wheels and BFG 35's with the limited premiere group in all black. (Straight off the dealer lot). I know I will be washing this thing, but damnit...I've wanted a black truck since I was 16. I am spending the same as I would have on loaded EB X, but will be able to tow my boat up and down the Mountains to Lake Mead, Powell and Tahoe without wondering if I am going to make it.
Good luck to all getting an '03 X. I just couldn't wait for Ford to get it right on the Expedition. I had my '97. Looks like I will wait another 5 years to see what Ford comes up with...
I need to get with you Monsta...if you are still watching these postings...I did get the 7.3...and the only way I could get the lift and stuff was to tell my wife it was covered in the $2k rebate. I couldn't bare a stock one...
I see your points. However, my purpose for the vehicle is much different from yours. I don't tow much except for pulling the jet skis or puting the boat in/out of the water. My main purpose is comfort when traveling with the wife and three kids. Right now, I have a '98 Expy so an upgrade is definitely warranted. I have had several GM products with no luck. I won't go down that road again for awhile. Also, the Exc. is just too big for me. The thing wouldn't fit in my garage. As far styling, it is no different than the Tahoe and Surburban. They are exactly the same whereas there is some subtle differences between the Expo and Expy.
Very True. The Expy could not be everything to everyone. My needs have changed with a bigger boat, so the Expy is less attractive. Ford did a great job with it, and I suppose they want to update the motor and stuff later, to get everyone excitied again. If it had the 3 valve or the diesel and the load leveling, I would have ordered one.
The Excursion with the 7.3L diesel is a great vehicle, you'll be very happy with it! I know I'll miss mine when my '03 Expy gets here (if it ever gets here). Hopefully Ford has improved the ride quality since the 2000's.
My dealer did get an '03 in yesterday (wasn't mine), but he did tell me to take it for a drive, so I did! I was nothing more than completely impressed with this vehicle! It rode nicer than a lot of Lincolns and Caddys I've ridden in. Ford has taken a great vehicle and vastly improved it. (with the exception of horsepower):-(
