I will be driving and my steering will get loose then go back to normal. This sucks when going around a curve on the highway. Anyone ever have this problem?
I recently bought a 97' XLT Expy, and it is very touchy in the steering, (squirrley) I called it, particularly on the highway like 70 mph or so, I have miss matched tires on it was hoping that may be the problem. It has some new front end parts, ball joints, A- arm to list a couple, I heard a steering stabalizer helps this, will be looking into one soon, as well as shocks, and then get 2 new tires to match the new (Uniroyal Laraedos) the dealer put on the back, Hmmm dont new tires usually go on the front,,?? Hope some of this helps Later ,,,,,,Mark ,,,,,,,,
Yeah, these trucks have some sort of variable speed sensitive power assist (or something like that) that's supposed to make these things easier to drive (Ford wants to turn a truck into a car). But what it actually does is make the steering feel really funny and inconsistent at best. I put on a steering stabilizer and new Rancho shocks and will never look back. I can't even begin to tell you how much improved my Expy handles. I’ve also heard that a larger rear sway bar and poly bushings make a tremendous difference too.
