What type of navigational system is it and where is it located. I noticed in the 2002 Navigator it is in the center console. Also, is there an annual fee for it, ie like On-Star?
I am going in to order one Saturday pretty much the way you did except for the color. I am going to opt for the Estate Green if you can get it on the EB.

TarNation,
This is the info I've got so far. The navigation system is an in-dash system very similar to the '03 Lincoln Navigator. The AM/FM radio functions are incorporated into the system along with steering wheel controls. When the navigational system is installed, the 6 disk CD changer is relocated back into the center console.
The navigation information is a CD based system, meaning that each CD will cover a certain geographical area. 1 CD comes with the vehicle according to the vehicle destination from the factory. (So I'm told) I think there are 6 or 7 CD's for the entire US. I've seen pricing around $200 a piece on the net, but maybe Ford will have better prices when you buy the vehicle.
It will have (approx) a 5" color screen. Once you program a destination, the system will give you visual and audio feedback while in route. I'm told even if you do make a wrong turn, the system will automatically correct your route and get you back on track. The vehicle uses a GPS sensor to show the position and direction of the vehicle at all times.
There is NO subsciption or fees to pay in order to operate the system.
It's too bad Ford didn't go with the DVD system. 1 DVD will cover the entire US!
Estate Green is available on the Eddie Bauer model.
One last question, how big of an area does one CD cover and can you find out what states will be on it. I live in NC so travelling to Va, Tn, SC, Ga and Fl are all likely scenarios.
By the way, I opted not to get the Advance Trac and the Tire monitoring sensor. Other than that, pretty much the same except the color, Estate Green. He is supposed to call me today or tomorrow for more info. on the Navigational System and pricing. I am trading in my '98 EB Expedition.

TarNation,
Without knowing exactly who manufactures the navigational system for the Expy, it's hard to tell what the CD's will cover.
At www.alpine1.com they show 9 different CD's covering the US. At Visteon the show only 3 CD's covering the US. I'm pretty sure Visteon is no longer working with Ford.
If a person can find out who makes this system, it should be pretty easy to locate the software that drives the system.
Check with your dealer before you order the navigation system! My dealer just called and told me Ford just put my vehicle on a temporary hold because of the navigation system. He thought there might be a glitch in the system they need to work out before they build it. I have no idea how long a temporary hold can last. If your dealer finds out any info on this, let me know!
With that said, I went ahead and placed the order without the Navigational System but added the Advance Trac. I was contemplating on whether or not the Navigational System was worth the $1,995 anyway. They made up my mind for me. I just don't think I would have used it enough to justify the price.
The navigation system is only available on the Eddie Bauer model.
Remember that Ford Public Relations person I bugged the heck out of about the load leveling suspension delay- and the reason for me not ordering yet? I haven't talked to her in about 3 weeks.
She just called me an wants to deliver a 2003 to my home for me to test drive so I can make up my mind on whether or not I really need the load leveling. She said the engineers feel I will not be able to tell the difference (then why option it, I said?), so this way I can go ahead an order.
She said they (Ford Customer Reps\PR people) just got back from Canada for where they were able to drive and get with all the engineers. She said Ford was distibuting these 2003's out to the country for these kind of PR issues and wants me to be one of the ones for early customer feedback.
I'm very impressed. It looks like I will get to drive, touch, feel, hook my boat to a 2003 within the next few weeks! I don't know how long I will get with the new bad boy, but I plan to take digital pics and good notes to share with everyone when the rep. shows up.
I will keep everyone posted.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Tire pressure monitoring system will be a hold to build until August.
The Cellport phone system shown in the new '03 brochure, will not be available from Ford until next year.
Also, can you add it in the after market through a Ford Dealership down the road? If not, I might have to change my order?
BTW, Build and price is now available on the Ford site.
I was going to have that option added as well since it was so cheap. However, the dealer told me of the wait and said it is nice but not a have to have option. In other words, it wasn't worth the wait.
Also, I believe he said some of the Ford Sedans have that option, I believe it was the Taurus. Anyway, you might want to ask someone that has a Taurus if they have the option and what they think about it.
