I recently ordered a 2000 4x4 Regular Cab with a V10 and a 3.73 rear end. ETA is mid-January. How Y2K prepared is Ford and the rail system anyway? Well prepared, I hope! I was wandering how hard that V10 is gonna kick in the regular cab 4X4 configuration. I think it will run strong since the truck will basically be all engine! Just wandering what you fellas think.
When did you order you truck? I was told the normal waiting time is 3 months without the 2 week Ford plant shut down for Christmas. I ordered a F250 SD CC w/V10 on 11/20. The dealer told be that best possible delivery would be the last week of Feb. Most likely the truck will come in some time in March but it could take as long as 6 months. I know the CC are harder to get so maybe that is where the problem is but I would not expect that you dealer will get your truck any time in Jan.
I ordered a 2000 F250, V10, 4x4, SC on Sep.17 and they told me it would be 8 to 10 weeks. I got a build date a couple of weeks ago for Jan 3. I called the salesman a few days ago and the build date has been moved up a week to Dec. 27. It'll have been 5 months from the time I ordered it to the time comes in!
I think that a lot of it depends on WHAT you're ordering and WHO you're ordering it from.
WHAT: I ordered a '00 F250 V10 SD CC XLT LWB automatic 4.30 4x4 on 9/24 and picked it up on 12/10. I could have had the V8 or the Diesel much earlier, but held out for the V10.
WHO: I ordered from what appears to be a high-volume dealership in the Silicon Valley. Other dealers in the area were telling me 4-5 months; I got it in less than 3.
Take a look at the Excursion message board --- there are several posts that talk about "dealer allotment". Maybe you need to talk with your dealer, or start over with a different dealer.
I ordered a 2000 sd 350 4x4 dually crew cab code W33. I ordered it on 9/22/99. I still do not have a build date. I live in NJ. My dealer said 4-6 months. Is the diesel quicker to get. I need the truck for the upcoming racing season in march. ANY HELP
I have an F350 4x4 DRW, V10 auto with 8500 miles. The V10 has always had upper engine clatter
when cold started which I have been told is a common but annoying characteristic. The perfomance on the V10 seems somewhat sluggish compared to the 460 in an f350 I also tow with I'm guessing the HP
& torque ratings are overestimated by Ford. If anyone has personal experience with cat back exhaust or powerchips on a V10 I'd appreciate the
heads up.
Joel, check out www.f150-online.com message forum-> engines-> piston slap topic (summary). It gives details of which V8's and V10's may experience the problem.
The clattering on cold start is often diag'd as piston slap. It appears that 1 in 1000 5.4L and 6.8L engines (in 99) had this depending on where they were built.
It appears that Ford is replacing the engines that have this symptom, but they also state that the clattering will not affect engine life or performance..
The problem is solved on new engines so 'most' 2000 model year trucks won't have the problem, but some may..
