Coolent Fan Clutch!!!!!!!! Help

Dealer is stating my coolent fan clutch is bad and it needs to be replaced on my F 250 6.0 L Diesel. They want $500 bucks! Do I need to get it replaced what are the symptons of it not working? I do not pull anything with the truck. And advice or what could happen if I don't fix at this time?

They are also saying I need a EBP sensor and a MAF sensor? Will these cause the truck to run rough and have horrible cold starts?

Thanks guys

what year is the truck?
a bad fanclutch will lead to egr cooler and head gaskets failers.
maf and ebp can cause starting issues. ebp can also cause a lack of power. I will say we dont see to many maf sensors in our shop.

buy the fan clutch and replace it yourself. it is not that hard to do. I bought one for like 150 or something like that one time.

The year is a 2003. One dealership told me first it was the FICM and two injectors and another dealership said the FICM was fine as well as the injectors and the issue was the EBP and Map causing the issue. I do have a lack of power on the freeway if I press the pedal down it does not want to take off sometimes and I hear a whistle noise and it like wants to stall but then runs out ok.

Coming back from yellowstone last year my fan clutch would't turn off. I unpluged it but that didn't help. After about an hour it finally turned off but now I'm wondering if I should buy a spare for the road. Anyway you can certainly tell it is on. It makes a low roaring sound under the hood and you notice a loss of power. When I turned the engine off it was hard to turn the fan too.

Spares are nice but I don't think I would want to be changing it on the side of the road!

Yeah I wouldn't want to pull the radiator and everything on the side of the road. Plus you would have to carrya round an 1 7/8 wrench to get it off and back on or a fan removal tool. but those things are to flimsey and I bent the last one I tryed to useon my truck. So I just use a 1 7/8 wrench now. If I were you I would replace that clutch now. It's never good to put off fixing somthing that is broke. Why take a chance.

Thanks Cheezit! You are a fountain of information. If you can do it in 30 minutes I guess I might be able to finish in 2-3 hours unless I bust a knuckle and have to quit for the day. Thats a bummer the radiator has to come out

no the radiator stays in. just the fan shroud, the fan and the stator. you dont even have to cut the shroud in half like some people like to do.
I really need to start taking some pics on how to do some of this stuff.

To me it seemed easier to just pull the radiator, but I have not took the fan shroud off the radiator before and had heard you had to cut it in half. So to pull 3 hoses and the two radiator mounts seemed easier. I don't have all the knowledge as you do though cheezit. It only took me about 1 maybe 1 1/2 hours to do the job this way. That's why I'm glad we have techs like you on here to help us out and guide us in the right direction. Thank you and now I know the rest of the story.

Thanks to all for your feedback. I had the clutch fixed as well as the EBP and MAF and it runs much better but I still need a new FICM.
