Hello guys Im stranded 900 miles from home , truck is a 2004 F250 with a 6.0 , the harness for the fan clutch got cut off by the blade , it is rewire now , how ever the truck will idle no problem at normal temp , as soon as I drope it in D and go the temp goes up , I stop keep it idle temp will start going down , rev it up in park temp wont go up , I have coolent , not leaks bone dry , no white smoke or liquid in the exhaust , fan works ....water pump I dont know how to test it but is not leaking , thermostat ??? Ideas ?? Is 1am and dont know what to do thanks
Sounds like the wiring isnt wired properly when you fixed it?
Thats what I thought but I re checked and color match all the wires and pulled each one to make sure they where not loose and everything chwcks out on that end
In that case if it all worked prior to the incident I would look for a broken wire, the insulation can look ok but the conductor inside could be broken.
Been idle for a while now needle is dead center took some heat temp with the infrared gun , upper hose 123f , lower hose 84f , exhaust manifold 210f ,....does this tell you anything ?
The problem is not the fan. The fan shouldnt come on until the engine is a above normal operating temperatures. The question is why is it getting so hot so fast.
Fan works comes on and stays on , drove around the lot until temp when up near the red took another temp reading upper hose 172F , lower hose 85F
Sorry, had to convert to centigrade, 77c (172f) is not hot for any engine. They should get to boiling plus pressure cap pressure before they are deemed hot.
Maybe the engine is getting a wrong signal because of a broken wire?
Or lacking a signal because of a broken wire?
Pull the thermostat until you get home and can diagnose it better.
I been sleeping by the parts store will swap that thermostat with a new one and see what happens , witch way that fan should be rotating clockwise or counter clockwise?
Well this is what I think , the wire for the fan got cut off I was on stop and go traffic pulling a 12000 trailer so it got hot really quick , was stuck for like 6 hours until I could stopped in a parking lot around 1am that had a autozone , in the morning I swapped the thermostat and no luck , unhooked my trailer and it will hold temp 3/4 up on the gauge , so got a water pump and swapped that the old water pump was cracked a hair from braking away , took off and it held temp 900 miles to Miami . The problem was that the cracked water pump couldn't circulate coolent fast enough under load with the trailer, by it self it will hold .
