I'm already thinking I should get that 200 Amp alternator that Andy got, just so I'll have it as there is almost 50,000 miles on the original alternator.
But then I don't have a clue to the life expectancy of the late model alternators.
Dave my alternator is running great.
The stock unit does not put out much power at idle and the new one does 120 amps.
Dave do you really need 4 battery's?
Two battery's and a HO alternator should be enough power unless you are going to power a small town LOL.
Andy, did you go with the "You can add the Quicktifier Remote Rectifier system for greater power and reliability."?
I want the deep cycle batteries for hotel loads, without draining the starting batteries.
Such as sleeping in my van.
The family's cabin was wired for 12 volts long ago, then the 'system' was abandoned in-place.
Currently I have to lug the batteries into the cabin and back out when I charge then off a 2-cycle generator.
The plan is, with the deep cycle batteries mounted on my van, I don't have to manhandle them around, I just park next to the cabin and plug the cabin into the van. When I drive off the batteries get charged, if I don't drive off for a few days then no harm as the starting batteries are fully charged. True, I could use the 2-cycle generator to jump-start the van otherwise, but then I've already hurt the starting batteries by sucking them so low.
I took today off to putz around the house and work on the truck. Also going to put away the plow and the 1200# of cement blocks from my bed. This will essentially guarantee a blizzard sometime next week.
