dave, how does the van drive and ride with the new running gear? is it stable as you had hoped with the widened stance?
I'm truly please with the ride quality, TY Aaron.
Trusting the tuner guy to have properly set the speedometer, I'm running at ~2000rpm for 60mph which is where I was before the mod.
I guess I lucked out in going with the 5.13's considering I was originally computing out to only need a 4.88 to preserve torque at the wheels, I would have ended up with labored acceleration.
With the Bilstien shocks, and fresh steering stabilizers, the Centramatic dynamic wheel balancers, and running the tires at ~75psi (120psi rated), the ride seems to be smoother that before the mod. I no longer hear stuff bouncing off the floor anymore when I hit bumps in the road. Today I upped the tire pressure to 80psi as 75 is minimum inflation per Michelin.
The sidewalls have a single steel belt, so as for tracking & body roll, I'm satisfied. There is minimal body roll when riding along the interstate, its been so long since I had my van that I can't relate back to the body roll when 18-wheelers & buses pass me. Again its been so long since I drove when the van was stock, I am conscious of the fact that I seem to be making constant minor tweeks to the steering wheel to stay on track and this is with four new ball joints and an alignment. The guy at the alignment shop said that the ball joints are stiff / sticky and would smooth out over time once they lap-in. So maybe that's why I'm 'steering' more at the moment.
just went with mom to pick up her new car. allstate is screwing them over so now the lawyers are involved, but she was tired of the rental and went ahead on picking up her new car anyway. it drives pretty nicely, i gave it a good road test. it doesnt look that bad for a euro car (saab).
now i need to get my bike out and charging because my truck is down until my rear driveshaft gets fab'd and delivered. i hope it stays sunny, or it'll be a wet ride to work tomorrow!
