Welcome to FTE. Lariat is a trim package usually identifiable by things like leather seats, wood grain inlays, overhead console, etc. You could verify the trim level with the VIN, but if it has all the Lariat stuff, does it really matter if it's after market or factory?
Thanks for the reply. Truck has some Lariet stuff (seats and badges), but nothing else. Just don't want to be taken by the seller. Is it more likely to be in the VIN or on the trim code plate. I have the VIN number and most of the trim code info. Just not sure if any of that helps.
I know on my 2000 Lariat, the only badging was on the front fenders, and the seats. But it had wood grain on the door panels, overhead console, and front and back leather seats.
There are some "fake" Lariats out there, but more often than not it's an XLT truck with an appearance package...
Planet Ford gave me an F150 when they messed up my truck and from outward appearances it looked like a Lariat minus the fender cladding.
Before I bought my X in 2001, I was given a '00 XLT Excursion to drive for the weekend it had the lower cladding and looked like a Limited...it even had leather seats.
So what I think happened is someone may have re-badged the truck since it looked enough like a Lariat...
A buddy of mine put f450 badges on his lifted f250... If it has the lariat stuff and is a xlt I would be suspicious and probably pass it up. Something shady goin on
I don't understand what the problem is here. A guy had a loaded XLT and he slapped on some Lariat badges. It's not like he's trying to pass it off as some limited production special edition truck. Besides, it's nearly eight years old. If it was a year or two old...maybe I would be a little skeptical, but if this was the right truck for me I wouldn't worry about it being a fancy XLT or a Lariat. I have an '08 XLT and added the Lariat wheel well trim...did I make a mistake? Am I missing something???
I guess if they were asking a premium price for the Lariat then I would be a little pissed, but otherwise I would probably buy it if it looked and ran good. But again if they jacked up the price for the Lariat then I would run away.
