I took some pics of the header exhaust on my 78 f150 4wd plow truck...don't laugh at the metal tape repair on the exhaust pipe..it worked in a pinch ..until it warms up.. exhaust runs down p/s and splits over rear axle for the duals,
I have installed hooker headers in my 77 4x4 short bed.
I would recomend replacing the starter because of the way the headers wrap around the starter, you would have to remove the header to get at it.
Also, the crossmember is right in the way if using a long tube header design. I didn't want anything hanging below the transfer case so it took 4 45 degree pieces to make a nice bend through the crossmeber. It took me about two hours to fit it and weld it all up. But I am very satisfied with the results.
I will post pics for you tonight.
thanks for those pictures! helps alot. i cant decide if i wanto run headers or just run my stock manifolds and put dual on it. bc i would wanto do what muladesign did and not have them under my crossmember. but wel see what happens! first my funds are going to my lift kit and then exhaust is next on the list
lostinfords, i just had an idea. instead of making that bend for the crossmember, fabricate another drop crossmember to protect your pipes. i might go that route even
i wanto put headers on my truck, and it looks like they are all fender exit only? just wondering how everyone else has run the exhaust pipes from the headers back. im more worried about drivers side than the passenger side. pics would be great if anyone has them!
im trying to post pics for you, but in the posting rules section it reads that I may not post attachments. anyone know why this is?
It shows I can do anything else.
sounds like it may be a great idea..post pics of what you come up.. like I said before...my f250 has them going directly to the outside of the framerail so therefore they don't hang below the crossmember,,,, but your idea seems like a plan that I have not seen yet..keep us posted
goto photobucket and post the image codes. yea, once i get that far im going to tackle headers. but i just bought myself a wire welder today to start fixing my body up!
If you've got a welder and once you get some practice I'd go mula's route. The Hookers that I talked about at the beginning of this thread dumped out, like he said, directly against the transmission crossmember on the driver's side, but with a little metalwork on the exhaust pipes, everything came together really nice. No need for a lower crossmember to protect the pipes that just could get you stuck when you're going over something. Your call though, AleX
yea def. has it downside if you run them under the crossmembers. i was just giving out ideas though. id keep mine up in there tight though, but also helps when you build it, not bought it, bc then its a little more difficult to do what you want with it
old thread but my Hookers dump right there, but there is enough room to to fab up and over the x member. That what i did. I ll try to get pics soon. Maybe you already gotter done. I think the part # is listed for 77-79 150. Dont know for sure. I traded for them.
