I know there is a lot of talk on here about headers for the super duty v10 trucks but I am not finding anything about the exhaust provision found on the driver side.. Has anyone with these provisions went to headers? All I am finding with the provision is the Gibson headers. Who else makes headers with the exhaust provisions?
When ordering the headers you have to specify whether your truck has EGR or not. The header makers figured out that some 6.8ls came with EGR and some didn't so they offer both an EGR and a non EGR version of their headers. When I bought my Thorleys they offered both types, Banks is the same way. There is an EGR tube going to the drivers side manifold so if you have the tube you have EGR. I take it you figured you have EGR already, just thought I'd mention it anyway.
What do you want to spend on headers? Price will be the big determining factor.
I believe Doug's also offers viesions with and without EGR.
On the recommendations side...
There is a SLIM chance you'll be glad you picked up headers that have received an EO number from CARB.
That means they have been certified by the state of California to NOT affect emissions and are legal to use in CA.
Many states, and the fed, are considering the adoption of laws and standards developed by CARB. If your state does, you'd be OK.
Yes, it would be bogus and frustrating for a state to make a new law that makes previously legal setups no longer legal, but it happens.

Thanks for all the info guys!
As far as money goes I am looking to spend no more than I have to but at the same time looking for a good quality set of headers, no cheapo's. I am not looking for a show shine but good quality...

Banks. Fits your description perfectly for the second part.
I really like my Thorley headers. They make lots of torque (long tube tri-y) and have thicker 14 ga. tubes. They are constructed well but the only downside is they are a coated steel header. Not a big deal for trucks not in harsh winter/salt enviroments but if you want to keep them nice keep some header paint on them.
I highly recommend going for a set of long tube headers which narrows your choices down to Doug Thorley, Banks or Hedman. The way it sounds Thorley discontinued their headers for the 6.8l however they make a run from time to time.

I would like to go with a set of long tubes that come with their own Y-pipe to kill two birds with one stone...
I seen the Hedmans were like 600 on summit racing website, do you know if they come with the y-pipe? and what kind of quality they are?
Yeah the Hedmans come with the Y-pipe, you can see the flange that hooks up to the flange right before the cat.
Heres the kicker though, the 99' and really early 00' gassers had a different y-pipe than the 00'-04' models.(As I'm sure you know) The header manufactuers usually make the headers to dirrect fit on the 00'-04' trucks. So since you have a 99' you will probably have to cut the flange off before the converter and add a filler piece of pipe between flange and the converter to get everything to bolt up to header's flange properly. This is what a fellow FTEer ran into when installing Thorleys on his 99'. Its not a big deal, just something nice to know beforehand.
I've never seen the Hedmans first hand, installed a set or even seen pics of an installed set. Someone here installed a set but never got to post pics. Hedman usually has decent quality, they have been around a long time. They are worth a shot IMO. The Thorleys are hard to come by now and the Banks are expensive.
I have the Hedman on an 03. Fit perfect. Used Summit locking bolts on manifold and never had one come looser. The y pipe loosened up a few times and I finally double nutted it. Couple thousand miles and still no leak. I would recommend them.

Banks for question 1. You can get their Powerpack which comes with the TorqueTubes, Y-Pipe, Muffler, Intake, exhaust pipe, and tuning, or you can tell them what you want and what you don't. BTW, see sig for pics of TorqueTubes.

Awesome! Thanks!
Could you tell a big difference after the install?
