I know this is an old thread, was wondering if anyone ever found a belt that would work with the 5.8 if you just want to simply bypass the smog pump and not run the delete pulley?

Post # 15 of this thread actually. With details on how to measure your own possibly unique set up.

Part#s in post # 39.

But here is part of another post from another thread which doubles down on ALL of this info + pictures:

The tensioner wheel is a metal idler for a 5.8 F-250. For some reason the 150 was plastic.

The way I came up with the belt size, was using 1/2 inch high strength nylon rope, I strung it around the needed path & tied it with a square knot. Notice in the second pic the belt routs under the tensioner. This is important. It is not meant to put tension in that direction.

After I got a rough length with the rope, I took a 2x4 drove a nail in one end & stretched the loop out tight, drove another nail & measured the distance, then multiplied by 2. It took 2 trips to my mom & pop parts store to get the correct length. If there is slippage (squeal), you can use washers under the 3 alternator mounting pads in equal numbers.

No guarantees made, your results may vary.

Good luck.

Thanks...Not sure why you're shaking your head there

For some reason, I thought the part numbers you posted in post #39 were for the 5.0 engine. I'll try the belt you mentioned in post #39 with my 5.8, hopefully I won't have any slippage.

I just did my 91 and used a 92" belt, it worked but I really wanted one closer to 91.5" but the 92 was as close as they had. My routing is not like above though, mine did not have the idler pulley and the tensioner is mounted up where the idler is in the pic.

I had my smog pump freeze up on me and I did the same thing. I removed the pulley and installed a smaller belt and it worked like a charm.
