I could not believe my eyes. Today I stopped at a local pick-a-part only to find a 1963 f100 in somewhat OK condition. The truck was picked clean like a day after thanksgiving turkey, except for the seat belts. The part that gets bolted to an area above shoulder was bolted to a plate that was 3" X 3" sounds OK right? the plate was riveted to the thin wall about 10 inches higher than the filler tube. Not believing my eyes I removed it with a screw driver only to find a hole about 2" X 2" This set up must have worked fine for the owner because the truck was un-damaged. Scary thought.
When I bought my truck, there was actually a rope being used as a lap belt. I sh#$ you not.
I also saw a 72 f250 with the headlight bezels flattened out and screwed on. As I got closer I noticed the right bezel was on the left and the left was on the right. Both been hammered to fit. UNFREAKINBELIEVABLE.
I like going to wrecking yards. The things people do

Lap seat belts were an extra cost option thru 1966. Not standard equipment until 1967.
Ford did not offer shoulder harnesses until 1968, and then...these were an extra cost option thru 1977!

So true. If you did'nt get any extra cost options, use a rope.
If you want shoulder harness in your 61-66 make sure you mount it using rivets. Un-freakinbelievable
i'm going to try and one-up you on the seat belts. my truck has "one" very small rivet punched thru the fabric holding the shoulder belt onto the upper corner of the cab . i can't figure out how someone could not understand it's totally useless.
