Instrument cluster plate/gauge/bulb holder

I finally replaced my crumbling white plastic cluster plate with an aftermarket one. Cleaned and refreshed the gauges, repainted the needles, all new bulbs, new lens and bezel.

All excited to have all the lights working and nice and bright. Only to find that the replacement plate thou also white plastic is very translucent and allows the turn signal lamp light to shine thru the plastic and illuminate the seat belt warning or brake warning while blinking. I did make sure the other warning bulbs are not lighting like shorted circuit plate.

Plate was bought from reputable well know truck parts supplier and I would guess is the same one sold by any of them.

Looking like I will have to take it all apart and paint the plate black? Anyone that has bought one must have same problem... anyone?

I have some bleed over as well. I assumed it was due to the LEDs I put in it, but also used a new housing from a reputable (DC) dealer. I'll be interested in what you learn.

I will take it back apart and probably paint it white. Black may hide the bleed thru better but maybe dim the brightness too much.

You would think the manufacturer or suppliers would verify the product works as intended before selling them.

Was going to suggest painting it white, but you got that covered

Maybe paint the relevant areas silver and see if it helps your lights a bit too?

Ended up just painting the inside of the "tube" areas of the turn signal and warning lamps black. Did the job of eliminating the bleed thru and really did not hurt the brightness of the indicators enough to worry about.
