Replaced my ignition switch in my 1977.5 F250 4x4. I bought the switch and cylinder at Napa then ordered the bezel from Dennis Carpenter because Napa couldnt get it. Well the bezel doesnt fit!! Has anyone else run into this problem before? Is there another place I can get a bezel that fits the switch from Napa. Thanks
I don't know. The PO replaced the old one before I bought the truck and instead of putting in a OEM replacement switch the idiot put in some universal switch from auto zone. I can get the bezel started but it turns only about a 1/4 turn then gets wicked tight. I'm afraid to force it because of stripping it and then I won't be able to get anything on.
I called NPD and had them take a 76 switch and try to screw a bezel on and they said it would only turn 2 or 3 turns then stop. Is this the way its suppose to fit? Any ideas on what you guys have done with your trucks would be awesome.. my switch is just hangin there and I have a $20 bezel from DC that dont seem to fit.
I never owned the original bezel cause the stupid PO didn't save it when he changed things. Anyway I got in touch with Bronco Graveyard and had them take the bezel they sell, which DC makes and distributes to them and try and screw it onto a 78-79 switch. Well it worked. The guy that I was dealing with from BGY, Pat said it screws all the way down. I ordered the switch and it sould be here within a couple of days. I'll let you know how it works. Thanks for the reponse Montana!
Got the 78-79 switch and pluged it in. Screwed the bezel on but it doesn't tighten to the dash!! More and more problems with something that should be freakin easy! The entire part now just sits in the dash loose? Is there another part i'm misssing that retains the switch to the dash? Thanks
wow man. i dont know what to tell ya. put a new switch in my 76 first thing, cause the keys were lost. the new ignition switch went in exactly the way the old one came out...

That sucks. When I replaced mine it just went straight in.
Maybe put an o-ring around the bezel to see if that would tighten it up?

Without actually being there it's really hard to say what's going on, this should be 30 seconds and done, did you try screwing the bezel onto the switch before you installed it to see how far it screws on? maybe go pick up a few bezels at the junk yard and try them?
You are missing a part, the ignition mounting bracket. Probably only going to find it in the junk yard. The bracket has two bolts that mount to the bottom of the dash. The ignition sits in this mount and the bezel cinches it to the dash. The bezel only has to turn a few times.
I just replaced the ignition switch in my 1977.5 F250 4WD

The problem is...you installed the wrong ignition switch. The ignition switch used in 1978/79 is not the same as 1977.
The so called 1977.5 is a 1977, not a 1978. Ford never used the term 1977.5 for anything.
Since you bought the switch from NAPA, what does it really fit? Take it back and get the correct switch...problem solved.
