I have had this project on the back burner for a couple months now and I need to get it driving for my own piece of mind.
The original problem was that the ignition switch was held in place with a hose clamp and had stopped turning off the motor when it was running. So I got a new ignition switch from napa. I then realized that someone had cut off the pigtail for the ignition switch and also lost the bezel piece that holds the switch in place. then while tinkering with the wires I realized that there were three different wires that would engage the starter. and I couldn't get it to hot wire properly.
Also when I cranked it over in the past my girl friend said that she saw sparks coming from under the hood. There are some connections on the passenger fender. Any idea what they might be?
Does anyone know where I can get a new or used pig tale and bezel. pick-n-pull has been a let down.
The switch is spring loaded (did the NAPA switch come with the coil spring?).
There's a round spacer (C1TF-10A885-A), slips onto the switch, then the switch butts up to the backside of dash (spacer does not come w/the switch, sold by itself).
And, there are two possible ignition switches, the original (C3AZ-11572-A) has 3 terminals. The 1967 FoMoCo service part replacement switch (C7UZ-11572-A) has 4 terminals.
C3AZ-11572-A .. Ignition Switch = 1961/66 ALL trucks except P Series Parcel Delivery // C7UZ-11572-A (replaced C3AZ11572-A) Factory installed on 1967/77 Bronco's.
Not clear to me what components you have; A-the switch, B-spacer, C-bezel, and D-the key assembly. Had simular problem, the prior owner had inserted the key assembly incorrectly and thus found I could remove the key in any position, and occasionally unable to shut the engine off. It took me awhile to figure out how the switch and key assembly components fit together. The key assembly can go in only 1 way and the key, for lack of better word, 'preloads' the tumbler so it can be inserted into the switch correctly. The key assembly and bezel is what secures the entire switch to the dash. For some reason I am unable to download pics from my photo storage site so I have taken pic from John's F100 catalog for the diag. only. Anyhow, need the key assembly to install the switch. The key and tumbler can only go in one way. Sorry if info is nothing new. Also posting pic of ign. circuit?
