whats up fellas, im looking at eather a dmax or a 7.3. im leaning towards the dmax cuz of the ally tranny, buy the 7.3 is a wayy more dependable motor. iv heard that it is hard to get power from a 7.3? what are some setups you guys have for the engine/tranny in your 7.3?
I've personally owned a 2002 Duramax, nice truck if you like half tons. I love my 2003 F250, hands down a better truck, might not be a fast as the Duramax but will out work it any day of the week PERIOD
Dmaxbrewster, look at my mods below, i just dynoed 463hp and 912tq this weekend. I have a BTS Trans, for my trans mods. fully built transmission. u will not have to buy another transmission EVER.
thats a good setup. what are some of tranny mods u can do to these trannys? triple disk converter, deep pan, shift kit, and high pressure pump??
I wouldn't bother since it is a used truck we are talking about. Used trucks usually have used transmissions in them unless they just broke before the guy was selling it. New converter is usually more money since it is aftermarket and better. Mate that with an old trans and when that breaks, it takes the converter with it. That means you have to pay $$$$ to someone to cut your fancy TC apart, clean it, reweld it back and balance it again. You can get a Valve Body but that is all I would go for. They are about $225 from Brians Truck Shop and he gives you credit towards one of his transmissions when your old one breaks. Mating an old trans to an expensive TC is like a young stud of a man with Toothless Grandma. She still works but probably not the best thing to do.

You speak of duramax. You need to be more specific. LB7 (01 to 04.5), LLY (04.5 -05), updated LLY/LBZ (06-07) with 6 speed auto, LML (07.5 to the present with DPF) engine codes? I have an 04 duramax LB7 with 167K miles. It is right now in the shop for the 3rd set of injectors. Great truck, great engine (when the injectors are working properly), great tranny even with 80HP added and I get 20mpg cruising at 70, but if you are looking for a duramax, go with the 06 LLY up to and including the 07 LBZ or forget it. I also have an 02 excursion with 7.3 and it has no emissions crap. I love driving that thing and it has never had any major issues unlike the duramax. For me, the duramax is a love/hate relationship. When I bought it new, it was between the ford 6.0 or the duramax. After reading about the 6.0 problems and seeing 7 out of 13 trucks on the local dealer's lot with bell housing leaks, the decision was easy for as yet the injector issue hadn't really surfaced yet. Anyway, this is my $.02 worth. BTW, my X gets cruising mpg wise about the same as my dmax does. Good luck.
Just got the news. 5 bad injectors and another 3100 bux down the tubes on my duramax. You are better off with an enema than with the LB7 duramax motor!!

Don't say that. My wife is an RN at a hospital. One of her patients asked if her BF could give her an enema and if she could get some hospital supplies. She asked what he did for a living. He said he was a construction worker and reasonably handy. I think you can guess what my wife's answer was.
