The big plus to the AIS is that it quiets down the turbo noise, if you don't like it. It has been shown to flow LESS than others, but filters well, and definitely better'n stock...
That looks like copy-cat of Ford system I have?
When I bought the truck 4 years ago -the small dealer told me that he paid $120 for the insert. He might pay premium buying it at stealer, but 100 bucks those days don't go too far. Than I estimate that even with occasional runs on dusty construction sites -I should get about 20 years from the insert I already have.
Thanks for the link.
What Clux said. It is the same system. I wonder if they are cheaper through Amsoil or Ford. Can Ed answer that one?
Amsoil offers a lot of Donaldson filters as well as Wix. I have found however that they are often cheaper through a local auto parts store. I'm not sure about this one though.
I was looking at switching from my 6637 to a S&B intake with dry filter because I don't like drawing air from under the hood. I also want the cleanest air possible, without too much restriction of course.
My goal is not max performance but fuel economy and enough power to drag a TT without lugging.
One of those late Friday night posts
But what I get from it - your factory kit sucks the air from engine bay?
On my 99 model I do have factory cold air intake, but than I have the severe duty filter. Would you mind to post a picture or give better explanation how the air enters the filter on your model?
Mine's just a stocker right now...the intent of that post was to say the OP's teacher is an idiot...more air (cold & clean), is good for hp/torque...
I'm not real sure how the stock box gets its air...i have looked everywhere to see any spot that reaches outside, under, or around the fender...and can't...i have thought about putting a dang low rise scoop on my hood, dropping in a 6637 kit, sealing up a box around the filter, and basically creating a single-sided ram air system...just to see if it works...
As long as it is not coming with more dirt and oil like from famous K&N filters.
I do have the oval air filter in my truck, what from I know is FACTORY upgrade over standard one.
Does anyone provide comparison charts for air resistance and particle catching on those things?
Not sure on the flow rates and particulate filtering on a K-N, never had one and never researched it. Here is some interesting info for yaa kajtex1, https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...ey-filter.html it covers a few top brand cone filters and some oiled elements including the S-B. I did alot of reading and comparing and although the price was higher for this CAI, not only for the filtering properties, the most important, beings I was keeping my truck for the long haul, I wanted a good filtration setup and never have to buy another filter again. So far after about, estimated 30,000 miles, my last UOA showed .05 silicon contamination, works for me..
,Sorry for the high jack guys, but here goes anyway.I'm running the 6637 right now,i'm wondering for very minimum towing,no more horses than a DP Tuner and the such, will a K&N filter"sealed" with a good bead of grease around the lid of the stock airbox be good enough flow/filtration? I know the K&N is not that good, but is it only"not that good"in a stock unsealed lid?I'm wondering for the fact of it being a little quieter than the 6637. Thanks guys and sorry again for the high jack...

Thanks for the link poppa, but the links in the threads are expired, while with no attached charts I found too much blabling that I could handle
Now the .05 silicon contamination means nothing alone. Was it .05 units, or .05 mg and what was mileage on the oil? At this point I can compare it to Mercedes chart, where 9 UNITS are average, but the engines run on 10,000 oil change intervals.

I've heard of people doing that I recall in earlier threads Phil but that would take some searching I'm sure..It has been mentioned a while back. I still have my stock setup with a Fram drop in filter. I do know for a fact, my stock airbox was quieter than my current setup. Bump for Phil..

My pleasure, in no way I'm an expert, just from what I've learned reading these different systems and peoples experiences here.. I was hoping you could have gotten the charts and diagrams, very interesting to say the least. Here's my UOA at 116,650, now 133,000 so a difference of 16350 or so miles since that OA. My silicon was in PPM. Also, Rotella syn. since 15,000 to Schaeffers 9000 syn then to Schaeffers 7000 syn blend, so my trucks whole lfe was synthetic give or take the first 15,000 on 15-40. This is copied because my Jpeg wouldn't blow up the Schaeffers lab copy. TEST:: Oil sample info: Miles on unit 116,650. Miles on oil 9,650 WEAR METALS (PPM): Copper:5 Normal. Iron:18 Normal. I used to run K&N filters in everything I own untill 1999 when I read an article in an industry trade magazine that said K&N failed to meet Cummins specifications for particulate removal. I have never used a K&N or similar filter again.
I wish I could remember the name of the magazine or could find a copy of the article, but I can't.
