I have herd over and over that you are not supposed to use a cold air intake on a truck that just runs around town. Now every time I ask why? they always give me some BS answer. So I was wondering if anyone really new why.
Which is why I am trying to figure out if there is a lagit answer or if everyone is just gonna keep telling me no dont put a cold air intake with no explanation
Your BS meter is working well!
Hopefully this wasn't a mechanic telling you this?? How can more air to your engine be bad for it? Maybe something to do with the "cold" part of air intake?
Are you looking for an intake for your truck? A lot of guys run a 6637 filter which are cheap and work great. Get a cover for it and I don't think you could find something to filter better than it. Riffraff Diesel: RDP 6637 Filter Kit
Now a cold air intake can be bad if you dont clean them properly and not spray the oil evenly across the pleets. Thats the only thing i can think of. One reason i switched from an AFE Stage 2 was because i got tired of cleaning them. I love my TYMAR Intake

Your instructor could just be just one of those fellas that believes what came on a stock truck should remain on a stock truck. More air certaintly is a good thing...
