Toby sorry to hear the TX job didnt work out for ya. I am sure something else will come along. It sounds like you have plenty to keep you busy while you are looking for a job.
I talked to the foreman that was going to hire me for that Texas job. He said that the permits havn't gone through yet, and he wasn't going to work there because they weren't going to pay him enough per-diem. (like 3 grand a week isn't enough money). So that jobs out of the question. He said that they'll be busier then hell come april, it looks like I'll be home for longer then I thought. So I signed up for unemployment yesterday, and because I was self employed before I started piplining in Sept. There giving me the minimum. It might be enough to cover the bills, but barely. Better then nothing I guess.
So, today I'm going to rewire my headlights and install a new dimmer switch. The old one is stuck on bright, and it's so dim that it doesn't bother anybody at night. It would be nice to see where I'm going.
Then I might do some much needed work on my tractor. It's boiling over. I have it narrowed down to bad radiator, bad water pump, or it needs a new head gasket. There are a few hydrolic leaks, and some power steering leaks that need to be addressed also. It would be nice to get that ready so the wife or I don't have to worry about it next summer, when we need it the most.
Then I have an 01 f-150 4.6 with 280,000 miles on it. She started running really rough, and I had a big loss of power. The code light is on, but I don't have the tool to plug it in. I payed the neighbor guy $50 last summer to tell me that some of the valves are burnt. For some reason I don't believe him, but it does have a lot of miles on it. I was thinking about testing the compression and find out which cylinders are bad. Maybe I'll rent a reader and see what the codes tell me. And go from there. My neighbor quoted me an awfully high price to fix it. He said that it's damn near easier rebuilding the whole engine. I was thinking if I had to pull the head, and take it to someone to do a valve job, I could save some money. But I don't know to much about these newer vehicles. Plus it needs a rear sliding window, new side mirrors, new window door switch, body work, and numerous other things. I could probably put 2 grand into it to get everything right. It's still a good truck, I just let some things go on it. She's in some rough shape.
I've got plenty to do, without enough money to do it. Maybe I can justify it by turning around and selling the truck for 3 grand after I fix it. But with that many miles on it, who would want it? Who knows, all we can do is live until we die.
Most auto parts stores will read the codes for free. Check that out. The Fords are notorious for having coil packs go out. That is where I would start looking.

Right when that truck hit 100,000 miles the light came on. I took it to the stealership, and they told me it was one of the coil packs. $350 they charged me. 200,000 miles and the light came on again, took it to the same place. $350 again with the same problem. It was somewhere around $130 to plug it in and $130 for the part. Plus labor. Times that by 8 and it would be a heck of a bill. Then after the light came on, I would just ignore it. Now I find out that I can by all 8 for the same price that they charged me for 1. Live and learn.
Finished my headlight rewiring, I won't know how good they work until tonight though.
Hope everybody is having a good night. I just got back from helping out my dad do some work on his streetrod. Got alot done so that is good. Now I need to get back to working on mine again.
Hey Tom are ya gonna have that caddy ready for the 50's show?
