February B/S thread
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Today the car rental agency called me and asked me to swing by as I've had their car for over two months now.
With that in mind I first swung by the dealership and said to them:
'eh the rental agency called
... so why don't you call them first before I swing by as the agency is likely going to want to know how much longer I'm likely to need their car and you'd be more convincing than me.'
The dealership said to me 'eh your van is up on the lift you want to see it?' and I said eh 'when its done,' but they insisted so I went and looked and chatted with the mechanic.
The van has been there so long that they forgot a lot of the 'little stuff'

The differentials & axles are all together, and so too is the steering gear.

I see you didn't install the polyurethane boots & bushings as I asked. And now I suppose its a done deal
no drain plug for each differential. To which he said 'I haven't filled the differentials yet so I'll pull the covers and drill & tap.
I'm thinking oh so if they were filled then that would be a done deal too.
He points out that my steering stabilizers are leaking,
I take it that my new steering stabilizers are still sitting on the front seat?He notes that one Bilstien shock is missing hardware

I said I'd look into it. I emailed them back the North Haven warehouse info and mentioned that why didn't they check contents back in January?
I wonder why they can't rob the hardware for a 'generic' shock?I was told that they had to send out the axles to be cut to fit. I said of course, they come in short medium & long lengths with plentiful spline cuts just for that reason. I reminded the service writer, that was why I had attached the spline end beveling & clearance document to the work order.
Oh ya he says.

I'm wondering now if they followed that instruction. It's appears to me that the mechanic probably has done differentials before but not aftermarket axles, and that the dealership didn't have a chop saw.He asks where is the compressor and where do I want it mounted.
I said, remember I asked that you just plug the airline connections and don't run any wiring as I can't afford the Oasis Compressor, especially considering how long I've had the rental car. I said at this point I'll likely zip screw into the back of the van a tire air-tank and live with that.
We talked about the speedometer recalibration, and they said that the Ford program doesn't have a 5.13 selection. I emailed them back to fake it, to use another gear and tire combination to come close, and that by my calcs. I'm only going to be about four mph slower than an indicated 55mph so I suppose I can live with that until I can get my van through emissions.
I asked about the wheel stud length being long enough? he said they are the longest available, but he hadn't check the stacking height to see if everything will mount to the hub. Automatic balancer disc, tophat, and the thicker rim steel.
After the dealership I stopped in at the SCT guy that I got my tuner from and asked about the emissions and the speedometer.
The SCT guy said I have to run the van stock for about a week
before emission testing so that all the learning settles out, else I'll fail emissions
That I should bring him my tuner and he would make the adjustments for the speedometer, as he doesn't unlock the speedometer section of the tuners.

So tomorrow I'll swing by the dealership and restore the van to stock so I can take my tuner with me and drop it off on my way into work.
The shop still has to relieve the body to clear the tires and add turning stop blocks as necessary which they intend to spot weld in place.
I asked about the sensitivity to welding of the piece that has the original stop? The mechanic said that, well Quigley had welded up the adapters on the axle tubes so it must be ok. I don't know though
he's looking at the flat on the stub of the yoke that comes out of the axle tube and not the rod that extends out of the hub. I hope its a no-never-mind.
Mentioning the drifting pinion shafts in the 1st - reverse planetary set putting snowplow operators out of business a few Winters ago.

Good evening everyone.
