92 Explorer auto transmission HELP!!!!

92 Explorer auto transmission HELP!!!!
Son ran the 92 Eddie Bauer Explorer with very low trans fluid. Left him stranded and wouldn't go into gear.
I put fluid in and now it takes a while, but slowly will drop into reverse, low, 2, and drive. However, it won't go into OD, it just revs as if in neutral.
Like I said, when you put it into gear, it thinks about it for a while, then finally will slowly go into gear.
Once in drive, it will shift through the gears OK. But OD is not working at all.
HOW BAD IS THIS?!?!? Please be gentle.

There is a trans rebuild or replacement in your immediate future. You now have burnt clutches, both fibers and steels, burnt band(s) and drum, worn front pump, torque converter and probably more. If I were you I'd start checking the salvage yards for a "clunker" as they only ruined the engines. Your nearest Pick-N-Pull would be your least expensive option at about $100/150 Vs around $300 to $450. Good luck with it.
