I'm gathering up the parts I need to convert my 76 F150 with FE 352 and NP 4 speed to an automatic transmission in order to make driving more comfortable for my arthritic knees and hips. From a friend of mine who's parted out a couple of dentsides I've got a C6, flexplate, block plate, front driveshaft and yoke, and steering column. I also have the rod that pushes into the plastic gromet on the shifter lever on the column on one end and has a long slot on the other. My problem is that my feeble old mind can't remember what else the shift linkage consists of. I don't know if I just need a plastic gromet and the stud that pushes into it on the shift lever on the C6, which will then fasten to the slot on my rod, or if there's a bell crank or some other bits of linkage that I still need.
Thanks in advance for any information on this.
There is a small stud (basic p/n 7B415) that is held to the transmission by an "E" clip and to the shift rod by a nut.
Here is an illustration from the Ford parts manual.
You'll also need the kickdown linkage. That's a rod that is held to the trans. kickdown arm and the kickdown arm on the carburetor by clips.
And also a vacuum line from the trans. to the intake manifold.
